Cochereau plays Couperin

Cochereau playing the “Offertoire” from François Couperin's Messe pour les paroisses at Notre-Dame-de-Sainte-Croix in Le Mans in 1957 (a city where he had been appointed director of the conservatoire a year before):

In comparison to his later version at Notre-Dame (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc4ajuuPLNo), this is much slower. Note also that the notes inégales are already there in 1957; a “thing” he learned quite early on from his buddy Michel Chapuis.

I like it, but think I still prefer the offertoire from the Messe pour les Couvents, just a pity there's not a decent version on Youtube, I have a version I like on LP so will have to be content with that, I do have a spare copy but $10 airmail each way makes it expensive to lend out

Thanks for your reply, Dorsetmike — there is no need for 2x$10, since I've already got two versions of the Messe à l'usage des Couvents in my CD collection that I like a lot, namely Michel Bouvard at Cintegabelle, and Aude Heurtematte at St-Servais (Paris).

I did listen to that one yesterday, but as you say it's incomplete.

My LP is Michael Austin at Wimborne Minster, a late 1960s recording which has not been reissued on CD, also has BWV582, Art of Fugue 1, Hindemith Sonata 3 and Reger Prelude in D minor. A beautiful organ with some of the pipes dating from 1664. I wore out the first LP copy, since found 2 others on Ebay.

It is indeed a beautiful organ. A fine player, too.

Martin Schellenberg, "Fanfares & Fancies" which I have, (listed by Amazon)

and a more recent one by Sean Tucker see here for details
