These are two improvisations I made (out of a set of 22) on september 1st, 1998 in Air Studios, London - on a Bösendorfer Imperial Grand Piano:

• Fantasie-Impromptu No. 11 »With Wings« (5:02 min.)
• »Lullaby« for piano (2:05 min.)

(»Lullaby« was included as track 9 on the CD »Symphonic LEGO Fantasia«, but »With Wings« is previously unreleased)

Listen to "Lullaby" First...this is a "very moving" prelude to
A Magnificant Performance of "With Wings" (Fantasie-Impromutu No. 11). The Bosendorfer Sound & The Brilliant playing/technique/interpretation/style/versatility/positivity etc.and listen carefully,to Frederik's ability to connect the perception of different senses (to experience,for example,taste as shape,colour as sound,or sound as colour)This is using the elements of colour in the basic music framework....there are many other things I could add to this and "Lullaby"... but it is,yet another glimpse, of the inspirational & emotional involvement & dedication,within his music etc..... of just what "Frederik Magle" is all about. tak tak pamadu/Paul.

I truly did Enjoy and I am sure everyone else will feel as I do.....Lost for all the Words.

Frederik, I'll comment on those two beautiful pieces in danish at another time, ( can't really express my thoughts in english in this matter, sorry!) but all I can say for now is, that I wished I was sitting in a big concert hall, and experienced you playing "With Wings" and "Lullaby" live - !

Hope my wish will come true some day....

These are two absolutely beautiful pieces! And being a pianist myself (but not nearly as good as you) I stand in awe...I truly am inspired and touched. I'm simply lost for words! Keep up the great work!

And also thanks (better late than...

) to both Trebbien and Pamadu! Trebbien, since both pieces are free improvisations that I composed while playing, they can never be redone 100% - they are but a blink with an eye and would have been gone forever if they had not been recorded. But I'm sure you will get the chance to hear me play live someday anyway

Thanks! I'm very happy you like it, not least since you're not normally a fan of piano music!

The chance of them being arranged for full orchestra is rather slim at the moment. It would take a lot of time (that I don't have), but I am working on other orchestral works. And I can tell you - and this is the first time I mention this in public (only a couple of people are aware of this plan until now!) - that I plan on composing a concerto for piano and symphony orchestra sometime within the next 1-3 years.

Composing a large scale symphonic work takes time. Composing a large (35-45 minutes) piano concerto could take anywhere between 5-6 months (full time work 8-12 hours a day) and several years. Anyhow, since the work is not a commission, I'm setting a larger time frame, in the event that I may need to work on other projects before composing the concerto - in order to "pay for the meals"
