You are forgiven Margaret, re Mikes link did you notice the big men, I thought it was a modern condition KFC McDonald's etc I rather like the lady trombone player.
I'm not sure if they were already mentioned but if not - Barbara Dennerlein on Hammond organ and Regina Carter on violin.
toshiko akiyoshi, barbara thompson, dorothy donegan, and maria schneider

Haveing just listened to Joni Mitchell playing alongside Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays I am going to add her name here. And I beleieve some of her singing here would also qualify her for the jazz canary thread

Hi Mat,
What a wonderful introduction to a singer/pianist who amazingly i hadn't heard of.
you have sent me off on a frenzied search of Youtube, Spotify and Amazon to find her work
and find what I can quickly buy/download. WOW!
I obviously dont subscribe to Colin's viewpoint.
I find her singing weak but her playing was average it is more in the style of a night club performance than Jazz, I am sorry Mat but that’s my opinion for what it is worth. On a rating of 10 I would give it 5 but I would not buy it.
A wise man speaks because he has something to say a fool because he has to say something.
Colin, "to each their own", as the proverb goes.
John, glad you like her that much! Let me know how the album hunting went.
Mat, Check my post on the other thread - "jazz from around the world" or whatever it is
Checking out on jazz saxists, i saw the name Tina Brooks and thought - "thats one for the female jazz player thread.
OOPS!
