    Downloading from Youtube

I found a FREE suite of applications for working with video and audio files which includes apps to download content from Youtube and save to hard disc, either the complete video or stripping the Audio and saving it as an MP3 file. It also has apps to convert video or audio files into Ipod and Iphone formats among others.

Does anybody know if there would be copyright issues with Youtube content, I would have thought not as you can't get much more public than youtube.

From this site you can download individual aps or the complete suite.

I've only tried the Youtube to MP3 so far, works fine. The file being downloaded does not play to screen or speakers, just saved. You can set it to download a number of files, you just copy/paste the URLs click download and away it goes while you return to posting replies to MIMF forum or whatever.

I'm currently saving some tracks of Lionel Rogg at the Arlesheim Silberman organ.
    Cheers MIKE.

I found this statement, "YouTube is a public broadcaster, because anything you upload here can, potentially, be instantly seen all over the world by millions and millions of people. There is nothing private about it." I assume that means it is alright to download. I must try the link you gave us Mike thanks.

Only to add to Margaret's post above:
I think it's okay to do this, as long as it is for your own personal use, much like when we purchase a DVD for instance.

Bear in mind that YT's sound quality is not always that great ... so if you are seeking 256k bit rate, that might not always be available. Possibly there is some way to incorporate the "FMT=18" to the site link that one is trying to download.

I'll have to give this a try later on today perhaps.

The downloads to MP3s I've done so far have all been saved at 192Kbs, haven't tried the FMT=18 setting yet.

Nice ... 192 kbps is rather respectable.

Hmm, I used to use keepvid.com to download YT stuff and then Audacity to edit the audio. If I felt like editing and burning to DVD, I usually use Vegas (not exactly freeware though!). That program that Mike has linked to looks very flexible, think I'll give it a go.
