    A Danish first ...

All the time, of course I thougth it was the yanks who invented the typewriter ... however, research has led me to believe the DANES were the first.

To clarify: the first to invent a portable device capable of producing typewritten text. It is a rather odd looking machine that looks like a soccerball with typewriter keys stuck on it ... here's an extract of it's first use.

I won't translate the Danish as it's rather boring, but, nevertheless interesting.

I'm not an atheist and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.

That is very interesting, I never realised the Danes invented it.

The writing ball does look a bit strange.

Margaret - thanks for that! He was obviously a rather unsung hero of invention, how sad! I'm glad that there is a little group of Danish enthusiasts keeping things alive.

Yes CT I agree, it would be a shame if he was forgotten about.
