Different church organ music

Two new pieces for review..

The first, Frosty Apartment, is going on a compilation CD for open genres in Sweden. It has generated a lot of positive feedback. The second, Upchurch, is one I think may be interesting for this specific forum, as I use a reversed church organ throughout the piece.

Cheers!

That was quick.. I know it's a bit of a stretch to post IDM on a (primarily) organ forum, heh. But I got a lot of courage I guess ;)

Hi Strunch,

Kudos to your forays with organ music. I wish you continued success with your composing for organ.

Cheers,

Far more substance.. Reversed merely means that I played a bit of church organ in FL Studio with NI colussus VST, sampled it, and reversed the whole thing. That's the background of Upchurch.

If you want a more substantial opinion then I find it a dreadful noise which offends my ears.

The death wish comment was intended as a humorous response to your courage comment.

Well Mike, it can't all be roses and rainbows, and if you find that to be noise, then you have yet to hear noise. There's actually a genre called Noise.. I'm in the very mild end of the IDM scale. Leaning up against ninja cuts and nu-jazz. I used to make normal music, like romance era adagio piano compositions, but I like to try different directions to see where it leads me. This one lead me directly to an album publication in Sweden, so bite me :)

I think at age 76 I have sufficient experience to define and recognise noise. Music by my definition is pleasant, tuneful, melodic and harmonic. To my ears your offering has little if any of these.

There seems to be attempts in all forms of the arts, visual, dramatic, literature and music to push boundaries way beyond anything pleasureable, (the same could also be applied to fashion). The media hype something and loads of people believe what the media says and it just snowballs out of all proportion. (e.g. Gorecki and Einaudi)

I'm not against innovation, else I wouldn't be here at a computer composing this reply. I don't think you should not try different directions, but just because you're getting an album published does not mean you have something that will appeal to everyone.

This is pretty much the electronic music of my specific generation (I'm 34), it has clear relations to artists like Amon Tobin and Xploding Plastix, and you wouldn't consider that music either by those definitions. Millions, however, do.
I definately don't try to satisfy everyone, I try to satisfy myself primarily.

Your comments in this thread has been mostly unneccesary, rude and impolite.

I have always said: " To thy oneself be true" and that guy knew more about life then many of us I do believe. Interesting use of the organ as a background ( tradition) and modern progression and rthyms in the foreground in Upchurch. I enjoyed both pieces.. but i enjoy Yannhi and other composers in this genere too. I do refer masters works.. but all generes have their value to the scope of music. I prefer this to way out Jazz crap which my poor mind can not comprehend.. Keep up the good work.

Do you have anything of substance to add? I didn't think so.

And thanks Corno Dolce :)

I would suggest your response was not exactly polite either, so let's call it equal on that

You did post for a review, which is asking for an opinion which I have given, as has Corno Dolce, so you have one good and one not good. If you can not accept adverse opinions then that is not my problem.

Compared to talking about death wishes? Then I think it's overly polite, Mike. Besides, someone once said that art is recognized by its debate value, so these two pieces must be art to the max. Thanks.

And thank you wljmrbill, always a pleasure to serve :)

Hi Strunch,
Very Interesting - first I thought wtf .. is there something wrong with the media player...
Yeah really - (Take that as good or bad - for me it was fun:grin:) I AM used to open genres though.
(check the atmospheres below if you wish)
- - but then it made sence. Somehow i HAD to keep listening to Frosty apartment -
I got glued to it and had to listen again and again. It has a strange pushing melancholic feeling,
which captures me. - I could ask for some more treatment of the beats if you wanna hear my wishes.
(tomorrow then)
And also treatment of the overall sound as we move further in to the tune.

There's a complete change of color and character when the beat breaks in at around 2:30 - Im not sure that the quality
of those drums match the rest... - The change of character is also a bit too weird for me here.
A suggestion could be to reveal this new music color and the drums in some way - somehow in the beginning,
to see what would happen. - All in all its a very intriguing piece and it seems very original and honest.
Congrats on your participation in the CD album!
Thx for the share.

Jeg elsker din musik, det er smukt...fint udformet, og velgennemtaenkt. Og, undskyld for min dansk, det ikke godt! Undskyld den grove bemaerkninger fra min kollega, han taler fran hans roev.

I was not referring to your music, with my link to my atmospheres.
I was referring to the fact that Im familiar with open genres,
as I think my atmospheres tend to go in that direction,
but they are probably to be considered ambient
- at least the ones on the site I lnked to..
