    Blessed Panos,

Kristos Aneste! As a man with your skills and experience in music I presume that you are aware of how McCoy's artistry really blossomed after he left Coltrane's group. I am quite surprised that the Orthodox Church declared him a Saint. As a convert to the Russian Orthodox Church I am not too aware of what my brethren and sisters in the Greek Orthodox Church do.

Maybe you could pardon my ignorance in this matter...Thanx for your well wishes. My kids are so peaceful - The only time they squall is when their diapers need changing. And they sleep right through the night - from nine p.m. to 7 a.m. And they already love the music of Bach...

    Cheers,

    CD

    Alethos o Kyrios !

My friend cd, you're right about McKoy.

Let me tell you more about St.John affair.
The Greek Orthodox Church, as the Russian too (you know we're related..for centuries) 'till today they don't recognize him as a saint, of course. Our brothers in Chicago did, years ago, and this was the point of that newspaper man's story : "Why only American Orthodoxes, and not Greeks, Russians, Egyptians, Romanians and so on and why only Orthodoxes and not all the other Christians ?"
    It's a shame I didn't keep somewhere a copy from that newspaper(a serius one).

Hey, there's nothing to pardon, I just wanted to discuss with you and share something.

By the way, have you notice how far we went from the begining of this thread ?
From Hard Metal Pipe Organ to John Coltrane to McCoy to us to interdogmatic international religius affairs of the Holy Churches !!!
    I think it's like a post-metal symphonic free-bop suite in four movements.....

    Cheers
    Panos

P.S. My son Constantine studies the el.organ the 5th year now, he likes M.Claire-Alain(favorite piece J.S.B.'s Watchet auf....but can't play it yet..) but also big band Jazz(Ellington mostly), david Bowie and ...Opeth ! How can he mix that?

    Br. Panos,

Yes, we HAVE strayed far off the thread topic And how FAR we have ranged.......Symphonic Free-Bop - Hey, thats catchy
The famous Leonard Bernstein uniquely saw the inherent similarities between Bach and Jazz.

St. John the Coltrane - Hmmmmmmm, I'm going to do some *fishing*. Congrats on your Constantine plugging away at music. Marie Claire Alain's brother Jehan has contributed valueably to the canon of organ repertoire,

    Cheers,

    Thanks cd.

I have to do some more search on Marie's brother, but I got a cd with her playin' her father's compositions for the organ. Great stuff and an invaluable teacher he was. What he will telling us if he had heard this "symphonic Metal thrash (wwhatever..) ? I wonder...

    Br. Panos,

I'll find some Jehan Alain for you. He was a genius at his craft but sad to say, he perished while single-handedly taking on a German machine-gun pillbox during WWII - Yes, he lobbed a hand grenade into the box and wiped out five soldiers.

Here are some of his contributions:

P.S. By the way you hit again, my father's brother Nick perished the same way like Jehan, in 1944...
P.S.2. I'm a maniac with WWII stories, especialy from the Great Patriotic War, pilots first(Georgii Kostylev one of my favorites).

    Br. Panos,

Then there are these exotic little charmers that Alain wrote:

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ado6qbhlNtY

Then there is his *Trois Dances* which is my absolute favorite work that he wrote:

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpTI5_pFHAY

Please note that the second movement is in two parts.

    Cheers,

    CD

Ps: Now I must pull us into the world of the Jazz Organist Extraordinaire Barbara Dennerlein:
