    Where is the NGBO?

    Hi all!

Recently my computer had a virus and all my flies have been eliminated.

Now, when I was looking for jorgan disposition ( the North German Baroque Organ from http://www.rite-instruments.de/) I get to this site http://bca.free-artists.net/

This site is just like the previous one but doesn't have any disposition available and there's no NGBO

Where can I find it right now?

    Hi Lombardo,
It looks like Bernd is no longer offering the NGBO as he is about to release new (and to him, better) organs. The old link takes you to his new site where the only organ available is the Symphonic baroque (http://bca.free-artists.net/data/dow...eta1_setup.exe). Your best bet is to find someone who has the installer for the NGBO saved and can email it or upload it for you. I'll have a look through my downloads folder when I get home to night to see if I still have it.

    Hi again Lombardo,
I don't have the installer, but I do have the NGBO 1.1 fluidsynth version installed in my jOrgan 3.7 directory. I can zip it up and make it available to you if you want me to.

    Hello,

If you go to http://bca.free-artists.net/data/entry.php and then under Download area you click on Archive Library, you can download the installer for the NGBO 1.1 disposition.

    Best regards.

    Erik.

    Hi again Lombardo !

I gave a crash test on your NGBO v.s. SBO from Casper's site.
Both very good, but I found SBO winning in most cases...
Cleaner and brighter sound and one can tell the difference between stops...when on tutti.
Better revised and updated console display and overall package.

    What you think ?

    Hi Ghekorg

Now I can't answer you because my is still broken. As soon as I can I'll tell you my opinion on NGBO vs SBO. I only know NGBO.

I would to ask this: Is the sound recorded from real pipes like in MyOrgan/GrandOrgue or is it synthetic?

    Hi Lombardo !

What is broken, sorry I didn't get it. If you mean the link or the download, no problem, I can send you SBO or NGBO, as I was lucky to get them before maintenance of Casper's download site. I also got the Cavaille Coll. Beautiful. Graham helped me with 64bit compatability with jOrgan and I run it with Java.exe instead of clickin' the icon on my desktop. PM me to arrange it if you like.

Now to your question. The majority of jOrgan sets are based on sf2 banks and the legendary McCoy's Jeux of 2000. I believe are synthesized, that's why they become a bit messy on full stop registrations. Also remind me my own synthesized sounds of 1996-98 era...
Casper says he recorded the sounds. Not sampled. I'm not 100% sure. But they dont go up to hauptwerk and GrandOrgue standards. The Spanish organ is sampled, at least this is what Levy says in his text. Allman's are sampled and offered in sf2 and Giga formats. Stratman's are synthesized and very good indeed _ the Silbermanns in Dresden are destroyed in 1945, so....

One thing is unique with the majority of jOrgan dispositions : they all look great in full screen option (not found on HW&GO...) I like much Stratman's paintings on his harpsichords. Some birds told me that maybe the v.3 version of GrandOrgue's gonna have this F11 option....he he

    So, let me know.

    kind regards and cheers

    Hi again.
Lately I found myself playin' with both NGBO&SBO sets and workin' on combination of stops to get the best sound possible and closer to originals on given works.

There is a combination that NGBO is best : viola da gamba 8' in great coupled with Quintadena 8' in positiv. The work is Pachelbel's "Alein zu dir Herr Jesu Christ". In all excamples I got in CDs, fellow organists use this combination on historical organs and indeed this work sounds best with it.

A tip here I found with trial and error : In NGBO setting of 10 buffers and 192 size in fluidsynth results great impact in overall sound.
Also reverb setting at 80size - 20 damp - 100 spread & 20 level, gives a live confortable environtment to play . No Chorus settings.

Another combination I found very usefull : Great Rohrflute 8' coulped with Rohrflute 4' / Nasard 3' on positiv + Principal 16' / 8' on pedal. Add to this the mixture 4 fach of positiv to change dynamics.

In SBO the nasard stop of positiv is one of the best, but the quintadena8' is not up to the NGBO standard.... I'll try also to deviate from 8/256 SBO's setting of fluidsynth to see what happens.

My crash tests in both of them will continue, as I believe they are "Bach's organs" as Bernd calls them.

    Cheers

    Hi again

I tried to play the SBO and NGBO with the choir of my church. SBO isn't a good choice and NGBO principals are too agressive for my ears. Although I prefer NGBO for Bach's pieces
