• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

Updating of Pipe Organ Resources

I've now added two UK organ stop lists to the Magle Wiki, Wimborne Minster and Salisbury Cathedral

http://wiki.magle.dk/index.php/Category:Organs_and_Stop_Lists

I'd appreciate some feedback, like too much or not enough information, format, any other links you know of for the ones already done and possible links to others which can be added.

Hopefully found a couple more to process, Great Malvern Abbey and possibly Christchurch Priory. I had a trawl round the net for details of organs in larger, older towns in my area, you would think organ was a dirty word, hardly any mentions and so far only one possible specification. Winchester Cathedral for example, very old, but next to no detail on the organ, apart from a claim that it is a good one, a Father Willis built originally for the great Exhibition in 1851 but no specification.

Cheers MIKE

Oh my goodness - I missed quasimodo1 - Drats.......

Well, better late than never---

Welcome Aboard Quasimodo1 - Please do make yourself feel right at home and stay for a spell as this form is highly addictive.

Aloha Mike,

Have you visited the following site?: http://www.die-orgelseite.de/index_e.html

There is a stoplist of the Winchester Cathedral Organ. The site mentions that 17 *new stops* were added to the Willis machine by two other firms. Willis himself had added two tuba stops to the original scheme.

Cheerio,

Hi CD, I visited the site you linked, the man wants lots of money for access to his database, however in the links on his site I found

http://www.npor.org.uk/xnpor_search_keyword.shtml

As an example of the information available enter "winchester cathedral" in the search box then click "submit"

To see the specification and other information at a particular survey date, click on the "See details of .........."

A massive list of just about every UK pipe organ, just enter a town or church name if known and it gives specifications, history, some photos and sometimes comments, one which caught my eye for a small village church was
Effective little organ but dominated by Open Diapason

In view of the amount of information (28000 organs) plus copyright considerations would it be better to provide a link (or links) to the site and it's search facility along with a few instructions on how best to use it for what you want?

I will add links for the two organs I have entered on the Wiki so far.

Yes, it would be best for everyone concerned. Thanks for asking ;)

Thanks! Nice to make use of this great internal resource.
Now, if the wiki would accept PDF files I could put up CT64's contributions there also. We're working on that ...
