Ronny Scot jazz club is still going strong I believe, I visited it 3 or 4 times, most towns/cities had an abundance of jazz clubs, coupled with the club/pub scenes in the 50s you were spoiled for live jazz

We are lucky because we have The Stables near us. They have got Chris Barber and his band next month, I think Hubby wants to go.

today i bought jamie begian big band- big fat grin-innova. my verdict this is not goodman or basie or even ellington. what this is, is a very very modern sounding big band and they are also very very good. i will have to look for other cds by this band, recommended. gord

My latest batch of CDs just arrived from Amazon:

Dutch Swing College Band - "1956"
    - - - - - -" - - - - - - - - "The Old Fashioned Way"
    Dave Brubeck - "3 Classic Albums +"
Chico Hamilton - "3 classic Albums"
Bob Brookmeyer - "The Essential Collection (Leader and Sideman 1954-55)"

Due to the inclusion of Jim Katz on Cello the Chico CD contains almost Classic sounding tracks.

John I have only listened to Sonny Rollins a couple of times and did not like, IMHO he did not have the
inventiveness required for jazz it just put me off
