I've cut back on buying CDs, I tend to listen to last.fm most of the time, except mealtimes and when reading in bed, then either a classical FM station or CD.

I also have an application which will save a video or strip just the music from a youtube item. I only buy a CD nowadays if I can't find the track(s) I want any other way, and then often a download from Amazon either the complete CD or specific tracks if I only want a couple.
    Cheers MIKE.

J.H.C. my friend, nah, I buy all my music from iTunes store (simply because I have a very, very old iPod that I still use).

Might I have the temerity to suggest this could be "music purchases" which would include all formats?

To be quite honest I can not remember the last CD I purchased, if you only want jazz then I d/l 3 Oscar Peterson CDs last week, one was taken from a vinyl and was full of pops and hisses, the other 2 were remastered from the original tape and superb when burned to CD.

Pops and hisses can be taken out with a bit of fiddling, I use a programme called Audacity, free download.

I'll have to redo the words and pictures tutorial I did last year, the pictures have gone cos the host I was using went bust.

Thanks Mike, I do have a couple of programs that are supposed to do this but I have never used them, something for me to play around with,I will let you know how I go

My programs will not work I have NHC,Foobar,TLC but they are free versions and noise reduction for d/l is not an option, Damn

I eventually tweaked Foobar to remove the hisses etc which it did OK but I think I can detect a slight fall off in general sound, but that may be my mind playing tricks, auto suggestion

My main route to acquisition of Cds is currently as follows-:

    1) I listen to Spotify and ferret out music I want
    2) I move to Amazon and see what is available by the artist or Group (band)
    3) I buy either the Cd or d/l from Amazon (The former supplies better info on
personnel etc, and the latter is usually appreciably cheaper)
    4) With the d/l route I burn a CD from the downloaded tracks but I have to
produce my own Cd picture (usually printed from the Amazon blurb ) and
My own personnel list (try "CD Universe. com) and Track list .

However I obtain the music, it ends up on my computer, but I always have a Cd as back-up.
For Colin, I would say this is the main reason for holding CDs.

I am not quite with you, I d/l to produce a good quality CD and use the PC as back up.
