    Hi Gord,
How about Ahmad Jamal, born Freddie "fitz" Jones. Began playing piano aged 3.

Mike, I got mary Lou as well (Google both)

I think we are going to have to rule out Google, and Wiki Mike.
It just makes it too easy (but how can we avoid cheating?)

Try this one (I'm trying to start as obscure as possible).

This great pianist was honoured by The National Endowment for the Arts (US presumably) in 1989.
By the age 13 he was performing on piano locally in Michigan and Ohio.

Hank Jones is right Gord (one of my very favourite pianists and a great soloist
in line with your thread about solo piano)
If you can access it try "Tenderly" by him on Jazz Studio 1

Now your or Mikes turn (unless somebody else would like to get involved)

    Cheers John

hi john, i am not sure if it is my turn or mikes we both answered the last question. the best thing to do is a question from both of us. mine is, what child prodigy was named kid krupa. he later became one of englands best jazz musicians. ok, its your turn mike. gord

Hi Gord, the only kid krupa I can recall was a punk rock guitar player, died in 2005 aged 43.

I would expect from the name to find a jazz drummer.
