What pianist did Dizzie Gilespie hire and get started in 1946
I thought an answer would have come quickly for this one.
Clue:
pianist for the some well known initials
OK - no takers
It was John Lewis of course.
I think this thread is going to die and thats a shame, because it was a great idea.
Please somebody else set one.
this one could make you think. a two part question. which two famous female vocalists married the following jazz musicians. one married bobby troup, the other married bill holman. gord (back home)
time for a clue, troups wife appeared in the 1956 rock movie the girl cant help it, holmans wife was a piano playing vocalist. gord
Bobby Troup's wife is easy - Julie London
but I cant find the Bill Holman answer.
I leave it to someone else.
Love this thread, just not good enough to join in. Please keep it going.
teddy
a clue she had a hit with the song you better go now in the early 50s. gord
Eventually decided to resort to Google, could find no mention of a wife in Bill Holman's Wiki entry, nor in a 4 part interview on Jazz Wax, searched on "You Better go now" which gave 2 singers, Billie holiday and Jeri Southern, neither have anu mention of Bill Holman in their wiki or other Bio entries, Billie died in '59 so if it was her, it was a very short marriage, plus she was a big enough name to be mentioned in Bill Holman's bio if they had got together (that's my take anyway)
With his Kenton connection he would have known June Christy, Chris Connor and Anita O'Day, apart from musical connections they do not feature in his nor their bios. He is also mentioned as having a crush on Peggy Lee, but that's as far as it went.
So I think you got us beat.
Cheers MIKE.
How many roads must a man walk down ... ... before he admits he's lost?
hi mike, the answer is jeri southern. i have to ask the next one. what great jazz singer sang loch lomond when only seven year old in the 1937 movie our gang follies. gord
I do know that one, but will let it run for a day or two.
I hadn't a clue, but soon found out using the usual suspect.
I wont give the answer until somebody (Mike? after all its his thread) tells me if its fair to investigate via this route
Cheers john
