• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Sounds way to complex for this ol' bird

You're Right David, sometime I get to this resolution myself.....but I thought, as I think Stephen too, I have to move on to 21st century and its stuff good and bad. So I started learning once more, and with trial and error sometimes when I can't get any help....

Thankfully on this forum I feel confortabe with all you people here and get enjoyment and lessons from every discussion we make.

My starting point was : I;ll try to do everything with a computer.
Write down my scores was first (I got Sibelius 6) then I need a good piano to play and compose in every place I'll be, then an Organ (here comes the VPO - a great surprise for me - and the whole Iliad & Odyssey of it...) then an orchestra... a recording studio ... and so I ended up with a Babel of apps.....

Now , this is what I told to Stephen, I get rid of many unwanted and keep the ones I realy want and learn how to use them in full, so I'll reach my goal.

Cavaille'-Coll 2.0 (and all subsequent developments) will stay no matter what. 'cause I get enjoyment from and come close(livin'in Athens..) with an antidote to an Aristedes child:)

Guilty...You are Stephen, but I have to excuse you 'cause of your love for music and all aspects of it !

I'm glad we have some stuff in common, as that the CC is one of your favorites :)

Have fun

PS. I think we would do nice neibours, by the way. But then again Quebec ~ Athens it's a long way (not to Tiperary....)

David,

If you can spare a two-hour visit to my place, I can show you just how good these VPOs (virtual pipe organs) are, and can explain how they work in lay-person's terms. BTW I am 71 years of age, and am well into MyOrgan (the precursor of GrandeOrgue) and into jOrgan (my preferred system).

I live a short walk from Turella Railway Station, on the Sydney Airport Line. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Hi to all !:)

I went to Bernd Casper's site and there's a beautiful and yet powerfull French Symphonic(romantic) Organ A.Cav.-Coll CC2.0 disposition for the latest jOrgan 3.9.3 for free download -Windows 7-XP(not Vista) requiring the latest fluidsynth 1.7 ,Java 1.6 and dualcore pr. 2~4GB mem. An excellent improvement of older CC1.6, now discontinued.

It works as a kinda stand-alone(opens jOrgan first), has everything needed inside the installer , sends a shortcut in desktop, so if you do not have jOrgan installed to your computer , no problem (I removed temporarely my3.9.3 jOrgan from my pc and tested)!

I'm very impressed. I played all afternoon with it.
It requires some time to get it customized to player's set-up (supports an one-manual set-up also) and adjust the built in reverb for optimum sound.
I believe is the best organ disp for jOrgan up to the latest standards.

Great sound, not experienced latency (is the new fluidsynth?), not moving full screen, perfect colours and very French design , option for a 3rd manual(accouplement) and the best of all, has reproductions of Aristide's Appels and some of Vierne's suggestions.

Go to the document page, read the story - there's a photo in St.Denis in Paris....
here's the link

http://bca.free-artists.net/data/entry.php

Br Cd if you read this, I know you don't like toasters but, go and see. For me is an antidote(as we said before) and I can close my eyes, play and dream...

Greetings to all

PS Said elsewhere here (NGBO) about Caspers SBO - it's also great(new like CC2.0). There's also a Hanseatic Baroque in preparation, great news ...!;)
You are right! That French organ is great! Are there other organs available for Jorgan other than whats on that site?

Hi Scott and welcome !

Thanks for posting:)
Bernd's site had sammore great sets for jOrgan, CC1.6 earlier version included, now as far as I know he updates his sets for high quality. Stereo spectacular sound is one of. Have a visit now and then to see when his full SBO (another great based on Scnitgers) is ready.

Although this thread is for Cavaille' Coll for jOrgan only, there are great jOrgan dispositions developers and if you go to the official site of jOrgan - dispositions, you'll find them at the bottom of page. Stratman makes awsome sets.

Our friend/member here Graham did a wonderfull 3man theater organ called Freedom. Find it here :

http://cid-c6dd879f60fadf98.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/jOrgan?authkey=46T*qHDDCLM$

Also go to www.BillSkeesRecordingArtist.com
There's a great two volume (170 pages) guide/manual Bill wrote about jOrgan and how to use it. He also gives (from pdf) direct links to developers sites !;)

Casper's Cavaille'-Coll 1,6 is the main example set on volume 1.

I don't know your system but try to use pedal controllers and or switches on Caspers CC2.0, all parts have diferent assignments, they work great !

Cheers

Reverb settings on CC2

Hi again !

After much playin' with CC2, I've reached the verdict about the fluid reverb settings for fluidsynth to get the best, in my humble opinion, sound of it, considering it's obsolence for a 21st c. effect...

So Set :
GAIN(overall) at 5. only. cause with all anches tutti you can be at +5db top without anoyable distortion and hear most of the ranks.

Chorus : off. You don't need it in a Cavaille'. There's enough celeste types to play with

Reverb :
Room : 86 - like medium to large Cathedral not big or huge
Damp : 14 - CC's high freq are sweet so low damp it's OK here.
Width : 100 - In a beast like CC2 you need the most spread you can get !
Level : 16. For best listening . It's impossible to get close to St Madeleine's acoustics with fluidsynth's reverb. You gonna need an SIR2 with Penguin impulse responce and true stereo (4channels). To achieve this with jOrgan is in itself a new post....still workin' on

Hi BumbleBee001.

Yes, I know, he informed jOrgan Users forum.....Very sad.
And we still don't know what's gonna happen.
My latest news were his impros with his new version of French Symphonic organ, just a taste of what's on to come.

I hope we have news soon !

Have fun

Hallo everyone.

From my side, as I started this thread (and succesfull as numbers indicate...), I declare this thread as closed, as I have to respect Bernd Casper's will not wishing his models to be reported or anyhow investigated, tested or praised in any other place than his own site or in a way he alone will decide. Anyone interested in his faboulus work can visit his site as indicated above in the opening post.

A great thanks to all who posted here about this excellent model, and of course all these unknown people who visited MIMF for reading the posts. I hope it was enjoyable and informative for all !

All my best regards
