Smile A great Cavaille'-Coll for jOrgan

    Hi to all !

I went to Bernd Casper's site and there's a beautiful and yet powerfull French Symphonic(romantic) Organ A.Cav.-Coll CC2.0 disposition for the latest jOrgan 3.9.3 for free download -Windows 7-XP(not Vista) requiring the latest fluidsynth 1.7 ,Java 1.6 and dualcore pr. 2~4GB mem. An excellent improvement of older CC1.6, now discontinued.

It works as a kinda stand-alone(opens jOrgan first), has everything needed inside the installer , sends a shortcut in desktop, so if you do not have jOrgan installed to your computer , no problem (I removed temporarely my3.9.3 jOrgan from my pc and tested)!

I'm very impressed. I played all afternoon with it.
It requires some time to get it customized to player's set-up (supports an one-manual set-up also) and adjust the built in reverb for optimum sound.
I believe is the best organ disp for jOrgan up to the latest standards.

Great sound, not experienced latency (is the new fluidsynth?), not moving full screen, perfect colours and very French design , option for a 3rd manual(accouplement) and the best of all, has reproductions of Aristide's Appels and some of Vierne's suggestions.

Go to the document page, read the story - there's a photo in St.Denis in Paris....
    here's the link

    http://bca.free-artists.net/data/entry.php

Br Cd if you read this, I know you don't like toasters but, go and see. For me is an antidote(as we said before) and I can close my eyes, play and dream...

    Greetings to all
    Panos

PS Said elsewhere here (NGBO) about Caspers SBO - it's also great(new like CC2.0). There's also a Hanseatic Baroque in preparation, great news ...!

    Beta2 version of CC2.0

    Hi again !

I one more time visited Casper's site and there is a newer version of CC2.o (above) : Beta2 for free download !

The set is better than beta1 and Beta1 with the update and has the new "Stereo Spectacular Sound" from Bernd.
I played a little this afternoon and got "drunk" with the quality....!

There are more steps in customizing this version mostly concerning the buffer size and number for fluidsynth latency. In my system I set in 9/320 from 9/384 Bernd's default. I maybe go for 8/256, my usual for all jOrgans, but I do not know if it's right on this one 'cause it's huge (70something MB) for a jOrgan set... I'll test and then post.

The only thing that I do not like in all jOrgans is the quality of fluidsynth out of date built-in reverb....Of course is better than nothing, but maybe Sven has to consider a built in convolver or a better solution for an external reverb.
I sent my pc's out to Motif6's custom algorithmic reverb and the Organ was transformed to something beautifull, really.

Or can we have please a VSTi version of jOrgan?

    Anyway, enjoy !
    Cheers
    Panos

    Blessed Br. Panos,

Thanx for appending the link. I will look into it. As you might probably know I use Hauptwerk set from Caen with some *extras*. I like the *Walker* toasters and the M&O *machines*.

    Cheers,

Hi Br CD and thanks for posting, I started to believe nobody 's interested on Aristede's masterpieces in VPO form (exept you of course - I know your affection on his instruments - real and virtual) - you're the first to reply.

I went to this set following your love on Cavaille'-Colls (you know I like the Silbermanns), and I said , what I'm missing here? what is this thing br CT tells about? Then I started reading about Aristede's work, Vierne's proposals, got the huge Notre Dame de Laaken set for HW3(demo....) and just stays there - I don't have the advanced version : doesn't load..

So, Bernd gave us a great gift with this set and I now have an antidote to enjoy a bit of Cavaille'

I suppose that you play your Caen set with a Walker toaster (and jOrgan I presume)?

    Cheers
    Panos

PS . I got all(or so) of Cezar Frank's works for organ in pdf. You think it;s a good idea to start practicing his Prelude(&fugue) with this set ?

    Blessed Br. Panos,

Yes, by all means, practice Franck on the Cavaille-Coll. Franck's *Fantaisie in C-Major* is even more satisfying, especialy with its F-minor *expostition* - Do have a look at it - You'll not be disappointed - hauntingly tender and beautiful.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Blessed and thanks br.CD !

I had this work all this time in my hands and I didn't noticed !

It's a copy from IMSLP (don't know the transcriber) and has all the registrations needed and advice when to change ect. Is it Frank himself that wrote these or trascriber's suggestions?

One more thing. All stops suggested or commanded , can be found exactly on this Cavalle-Coll set ! Great fun !!

    Cheers

    Blessed Panos,

I have not seen the IMSLP edition. I began studying Franck's music with the Fantaisie in C. Then came the B-minor Chorale...Enjoy your study of Franck.

    Respectfully yours,

    Hi Everyone,
It's been a while for me, but I have finally gotten back to playing around with my VPOs. I haven't tried the GrandOrgue just yet but will. I still have MyOrgan and jOrgan (several versions). Months ago I was able to play just fine and then I upgraded to windows 7 (which I love). I also have xp as a dual boot for progs that don't play well with 7. My win 7 is 64 bit...xp is 86 (32 bit). Java is 32 bit.

Now when I attempt to load any of the previous versions of jOrgan I get an error message such as: Praestant1_108.fluidsynth is no longer a valid disposition.

In checking the web for this I only became further confused. I am "jonesing" for my tutti fix. Can anyone offer some advice?

I am playing Midizter on xp but I am also using my delta 1010lt sound card (analogue/digital) and have the default set to multichannel output. I can't always hear from all the channels. If I use the onboard sound chip (idt, formally sigmatel 92xx g-major, creative software worked with that in xp, not so in 7. The new default is hdaudio with ms drivers. There are surround sound output minijack connectors in the rear of the cpu, but I was using a jvc home theatre to output the sound. Yesterday I hooked up a yamaha natural sound av amplifier (from our old system) in order to take advantage of all the dsp effects from churches, theatres, arenas and other world-wide venues.

Now my eyes are beginning to glaze over.

If I get a little help, hopefully the light bulb will go off overhead.

    Thanks in advance.
    Stephen

There is also another problem I forgot to mention: I use a Behringer FB1010 foot controller for pistons and expression. In xp there was no problem. I suppose this unit came with a disc with drivers, but I can't for the life of me find it. I thought it was plug and play but it doesn't appear anywhere, not device manager nor any music apps. I'll try and reconnect a midi cable to both in and out and see if that helps, but i really need this to show up so I can take advantage of all the settings I can save there. It has 10 foot controls with 10 settings each as I can remember.

NOTE: I was finally able to open the fluidsynth disposition for CC, but when I made some changes, I get an error that I cannot save the fluidsynth disposition. My brain is showing signs of old age at the moment. Any younger brain cells out there?

    Later that evening...

The (very dim) light bulb did indeed go off. Now I have got jOrgan working and got errors with MyOrgan, but decided to give GrandOrgue a try with my organ definition files and samples, et voila! It's all working. Only took 4 hours!

As I get further along, I'm sure I will have more questions and feedback.

    Happy Music!

Hi Stephen good to have you back !
Sorry I didn't reply earlier, by the time you post from Qebec it's very late night in Athens...
Anyway, I too got win7 (I love them too) 64bit. Many older apps have problems with, but now more and more appear in new versions supporting the ...future or the present as one guy somewhere in the web was cryin' out : "come to 2010 you..*&^%$#@! it's the 21st century you know...!". I laughed a lot...

Since we are in CC2 for jOrgan thread I have to ask you if you tried out. As you see has everything in it to just work imidiately with win7 and with a desktop icon (I love this stuff).

It took me 4 to 5 months to get my (older) jOrgan apps to work in win7, mostly cause I had issues to understan it's logic - different frm the other VPOs.. Still learning even if I closed 48 some 3&1/2 months ago.

The biggest drawback of jOrgan in 64bit is that after installation and the desk top icon placing , if one double clicks on it , opens jOrgan with the warning to "close it cause an expected problem occured..." thing. This sends many people away from jOrgan.
The solution is very simple, but you must have someone to tell you.I owe to Graham (Thanks;-) )
It's about Java. I got rid of jOrgan desktop icon and went to its folder (in /:C (x86) ) and found this thing called jOrgan executable Jar file with the Java icon. Double click and everything is OK (fluidsynth dispositions). Now I have this Jar file icon on my desk top....
That's why I praise Bernd and his new dispositions : got jOrgan into more modern computer era, boosted sf2's lesser quality to a top position to compete the others and the whole package is very much up to the present.
As doing Stratman and Others at the moment - Paul's Silbermanns are great - only Levy's dispositions give me problems : load ok - no sound and no colour not a lay out as expected...

I also did a recording with this Cavaille', not midi but audio.
Very simple and a bit crazy : I opened CC2.0 and then opened REAPER. Then I connected my pc's out to my pc's line input (no external sound card , just Asio4all).
Got an audio channel in Reaper, armed, send/return to reverb, then went to jOrgan CC2.0 and played.
End up with a .wav great recording and with convolution reverb instead of fluidsynth's obsolate. I know that with an external sound card (better A/D conversion) the outcome will be very very professional. Make CD and give it to your friends to enjoy !

Forget MyOrgan and GrandOrgue v1. v.2 is better and the upcoming v.3 will be best ! (see other thread about)
I got the two Midigers. Graham's Freedom Theater for jOrgan is better and BIGer
Since I played Paramount 310 with HW3 free version, I forgot everything else......

I forgot and I hope I didn;t cause any harm : jOrgan and it's icon works OK in win7 32bit !! - I did some test with my wife's pc
Now I left a jOrgan with Silbermann 3.0 dispositions in it just in case......

I'm not on my music computer right now, but I "think" CC2 is what I recently downloaded. Oh, I forgot, I can check since it is on in the other room. Geez, I love this Home Group aspect and sharing and streaming. Yes, I have the beta 2 copy. That's what I was working with last night.

I've been able to run the prog either way, the .exe or the .jar file. In the past I have made a shortcut to those and put them on the desktop. I run several things from explorer since not everything shows up under programs...and boy, do I have a LOT of them!

@ Graham, thanks for all of your hard work and expertise and sharing over the years. So many have benefited from your kindness. Rest assured, I will be a postin! Every day comes a little bit more. I can't just dive right in and spend all day, at least not until we are totally settled after our move. Almost there however.
