Our supermarket plays a variety of things, ranging from mainstream pop hits, to 70's rock, to 'canned' music. I assume it's whatever the person who's in charge at the time wants to listen to. What I found really interesting was a few months ago, when I was at a shopping mall. (Shows how much I like shopping. I must get new clothes this summer; I'm a freaking slob.. ) There is a fairly large area there for relaxing, with a garden, fountain and benches. The music playing as I walked into this oasis was Debussy's La Mer! Not only was classical music being played at a shopping mall, but one of my favourite pieces, no less. Of course, in the shops themselves was the usual techno music blaring. Made for quite the contrast.

As to our mail service, no complaints so far.

''The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work.'' - Michael Jackson

I remember when staying at the Dorset Hotel in Salzburg, they actually played "elevator music" in the elevators ... and ... of course, Mozart, no less . In fact, Mozart was the background music in the lobby, too.

In the store where I work, we play a local radio station ... classic rock of the 70's, 80's and 90's mostly. There are days when I tune in the local classical station and get the deer-in-the-headlights stares from customers like they are asking, what the hell is that playing?

My pet peeve are the rap crap people ... people who insist upon letting you know that they like their music and you need to hear it too ... from 1 mile away with the bass notes rattling everything around.

My only complaint about mail service here is that they keep delivering bills due

Well they knew what they were doing, that's exactly where Mozart belongs [quick exit stage left]

Love the expression, Lars . I get these stares ocasionally when I tell certain people that I listen to classical music.

Actually, no ... When I was in Salzburg (1992) and played for Trinity Sunday Mass at the "Dom" Cathedral, we were specifically asked not to do any Mozart pieces. Same was true for German composers ... the only common thing between Germany and Austria (at least at that time) was the language, other wise there was a huge rift between the two countries.

Nah Colin, almost anything after Baroque can be used for Muzak with a few exceptions, and by exceptions, I don't mean Composers, but a few individual works.

Not wishing to get into politics but the Austrians have always tried to convince the world that Hitler was German and Beethoven was Austrian
