    Favorite drummers

In case anybody should need convincing re: teddy's putting forth Joe Morello of the DBQ as a great drummer, just check out his extended drum solo on " Castilian Drums" from DBQ Live at Carnegie Hall. Truly one of the most truly awesome individual--and underrated--performances by any jazz drummer ever! White Knight.

    Thumbs up Favorite drummers

Two more drummers who came to mind tonight as I just finished listening to some Miles Davis and Lee Morgan are Tony Williams and Billy Higgins.

Gord, thanx so much for posting that link. I never saw a "regular" drummer use his bare hands sans sticks on the skins like that. He was obviously enjoying himself immensely, and that clearly carried over into his performance!

I have some excellent Teddy Wilson CDs where his only accompanyment is by Jo Jones on drums and the resulting sound is great.

In an area of jazz I have been looking at closely recently on Spotify the name of Joe Ascione on drums crops up frequently - he sounds good

I'm very sorry indeed to hear that, gord. I echo your sentiments most definitely. His performance on "Castilian Drums" with the DBQ at Carnegie Hall remains a classic and an all time favorite of mine. His influence will definitely be missed in the world of music.
