Do you remember Max Roach????,
in the small groups we caused the Drummers severe pain if they dared to use sticks I will leave the rest up to your imagination, but it made their eyes run![]()
hi jhc, max roach is one of the best drummers, maybe the best drummer to come out of the bebop movement. his recorded legacy is there to prove it. gord![]()
Ginger Baker, well known for playing with the supergroup Cream, has to be one of the technically best drummers around. he also has the ability to hold a band together without over imposing himself. Would he have made a good jazz drummer? I think so had he gone down that path.

I would have to say Ringo Starr of the famed Beatles. I've
seen him pick up on different beats during a movie one time
like I could on different keys and pitches.

Thank you Margaret. I am easily pleased.
Judy, yes I agree RS is a good drummer. A lot of people forget that he was a star, and had his own band before joining the Beatles in fact he was choosen just for that reason so as to bring some real experience into the group. I believe that the drummer plays one of the most important roles in keeping a band together

A few more names to consider, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich (the original drum battle?) Of the brits, how about Ronnie Verrell, played for Ted Heath then formed his own band.
And how about the less showy but gifted small group drummers, like Kenny Clarke and Connie Kay with the MJQ?
Cheers MIKE.
How many roads must a man walk down ... ... before he admits he's lost?
What does anyone think of this guy?
