    Question Early Works of Messiaen

Does anyone know if it's possible to download/buy scores of Messiaen's unpublished works on the internet, or if any copies still exist? If so, where?
    Thanks in advance.

    Montey,

I would hesitate to suggest that they are not available and still with the late master's family.

Quite obviously he is still firmly in copyright and won't come out of it before we all pass onto that big record player in the sky.

However, all of his organ works have been recorded several times and these include early works. Maybe an email to Olivier Latry at Notre Dame Paris might elicit some clues?
I'm not an atheist and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.

Try also contacting Hans Ola Ericsson. He was Messiaen's last student and I gather he became quite close to both Olivier and Yvonne. I met Ericsson at a masterclass he was conducting on Messiaen and managed to speak with him privately afterwards. I also received a copy of one of OM's last pieces which, at the time, was unpublished (not sure if it has since been published however).

He's certainly still under copyright as CT pointed out so any scores available "freely" on the net would not be legal (along with a whole lot of other stuff available on the net).

Thanks Soubasse. Do you remember the name of the piece he gave you?
I am also going to try contacting a French music specialist that my piano teacher knows to see if he can give me any info.

Sorry but it has evaded my addled memory at the moment. I'll try to dig through my scores sometime soon.

One of my favourite early OM pieces (apart from the beautiful "Le Banquet Celeste") is the "Diptyque". First part is quite challenging but the second part is just wonderful, easy to float away with (and it was that part that he re-arranged some years later for the "Quartet for the End of Time")
