    Just to put things into perspective this is a very rough glimpse into our future,

    Earth's Long-Term Future

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
    my=million years.

    +1500 my: Sun is about 6000 million years old and 15% brighter than today.
    +2000 my: Milky Way Galaxy starts colliding with Andromeda Galaxy.
    +3000 my: Solar system becomes part of the new Milkomeda Galaxy.
    +4000 my: Sun is about twice as bright as today and its radius is 40% greater.
    Sun starts to exhaust its supply of hydrogen.
    +5000 my: Sun starts changing into a red giant star, 3 times its present size.
    Earth is engulfed by the red giant Sun.
    +10000 my: Red giant Sun collapses and becomes a white dwarf.
    +20000 my: White dwarf Sun becomes a black dwarf.

    Colin,

    Thank you for sharing about that humdrum star we all call the Sun - It will consume Earth before the AlGore, IPCC climate-hoax does........

    Colin - watch it - the Christians will come up with some bizarre way of explaining that the end of the sun will, in fact, happen in 7 days ... LOL

    This is a point the greens tend to forget. We can not destroy the world. Change it maybe but not destroy it. Only ourselves. And we have been here such a short time anyway.

    The one thing we have is intelligence [some people would question that]perhaps we can use it to some advantage.

    The world is constantly changing, usually at such a slow pace that we do not really notice it. The population explosion that we are going through is probably the biggest factor in these changes, but when countries, such as China try and limit the birth rate exery gets up in arms over freedom of choice. Too many people are having children which they either can not or do not care for sufficiently. In this country too many people see it as a way of being kept by the goverment and avoid work by continuing to breed. In other counrties it is just a way of life, contraception either being unknown or unavailable. We are overpopulating the world and that is probably our biggest crime. I feel that if we do not do something about it nature will take over and cure the problem for us. World famine, superbugs, incurable diseases or a return of the dinosaures. Who knows but eventually something has to give. Maybe one of the intelligent people will find an answer, before it finds us.

    Yep. It appears some people want to single handedly "multiply and fill the earth!" Population growth could be the cause of the further enlargement of the Sahara Desert. People are cutting up trees and I'm glad to hear that people around that area are embarking on a tree planting scheme.

    Lusaka every thing plays a part but if you mean that we are to blame then I think you would find that very difficult to prove

    teddy you are 100% correct re over population, perhaps Iran will provoke the Israelis into WW3 that should sort things out

    Colin, the thought of WW3 is horrific, though I think that the Yanks actually started that a while ago.

    I couldn't possibly comment but you must admit Iran is playing a dangerous game, just depends how much the Israelis are prepared to put up with,
