Having seen my posts elsewhere you will not be surprised to hear I have no favourite classical music from the last 100 years, be it symphony, suite, concerto, sonata or other composition.

Besides, we've seen this derailing comment before already. Page one of this thread, DorsetMike: "Having seen my posts elsewhere you will not be surprised to hear I have no favourite classical music from the last 100 years, be it symphony, suite, concerto, sonata or other composition."

So, Dorset or news or whoever you are, why would you go on a thread on a topic you know nothing about and don't even like and say this? It doesn't answer the question; it just establishes your position vis-a-vis the music of that past century. (Well, it does other things too, but least said soonest mended.)

Anyway, I have my own derailing type comment, which is "You have got to be kidding!! Only one? From a hundred year period? Really??"

Well, of course, since we can list as many "faves" as we want, that's not a serious comment.

And on the off-chance that someone might want to actually hear some symphonies, here's a few of my favorite symphonies from the past hundred years.

Prokofiev, 2 and 6
Shostakovich, 4 and 15
Nielsen, 4, 5 and 6
Sibelius, 4 and 7
Stravinsky's three (the three after 1910, that is)
Dhomont, Frankenstein Symphony
Reynolds, Vertigo
Norholm, 7, 8 and 9
Norgard, 6
Terterian, 7 and 8

A few? That's hardly any! Where's the Searle and Sessions and Corcoran???

Oh well.

[Edit. I left off one of my very most favorite symphonies, of any time period. Gerhard's "Collages." I like all four, but three is my favorite.]

Hi someguy,

Maybe you might be too hard on DorsetMike - Please, some people on this forum enjoy the acquaintanceships and friendships that can and do arise on this forum. Remember, this forum isn't only for experts but for everyone in between. Everyone here should be able to add and receive specialist expertise and knowledge regardless of their own educational experience. Please do not feel that I have you fixed in my cross-hairs. Again, this forum must be open for everyone -A place were people can come and feel some respite from the madness that surrounds everyone. I have learned much from you and from RoJo, Krummhorn, Sir Magle, and all the wonderful souls on this site.

Respectfully submitted,

CD :tiphat::tiphat::tiphat:

Hi guys,

Just a reminder; please use the 'report post' feature (the triangle button) when you spot a spam post, or any post of a dubious nature. Doing so will send a message to staff here, letting us know where to find it so we can deal with it. I've removed the spam link, but have left the post so as not to mess up the train of conversation. Also, it's best not to quote these kinds of posts in your own posts. Cuz then we have more spam to remove.

Thanks in advance. :)

I loved Gorecki's third the first time I heard the Dawn Upshaw recording of it. I had a very real emotional response to it. I don't listen to it all the time, because you really have to dedicate time to it if you want to listen to it. That long cannon unfolding in the first movement, with the soprano solo nested in the middle--such a beautiful piece of music. I was incredulous when I saw that not everyone shared my reaction to it. Nice thread btw!

Lol, Well said, a similiar thought occured to me while I was writing that sentence. I suppose there really is no accounting for taste.

Easy, some guy has very bad taste and I on the other hand have extremely good taste honed to perfection over the years ;)
