A question on speaker placement

Some time ago, I purchased 4 large speaker cabinets from a church...inside each cabinet are 6 speakers. I have these set up 2 on each side of the room, 12ft apart, and 14ft from the organ, facing me when playing (room is 24ftx14ft). Trying to get a realistic sound, should the speakers be closer to the organ, and facing away from me, or even behind me ? The speakers are set up mono, so the sound is equal on each side.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A possible problem with multiple speakers spaced apart & played mono is that there could be some frequencies that will cancel out when listened to from points between them; I would think mono is better from a central source.

I agree with Mike on this. The dimensions of the speakers and their height from the floor will also be very relevant.

But tell me this. Why Mono ? You 've got 4 powerfull speakers spread out OK in the 4 cornrers and you must get a wonderfull church like sound from your VPO.

HW3 and jOrgan both have options for multi-channel outs so you can have the main sound of your organ from the front pair and the reverberant sound on the other pair ( you must sit/play in the midle of the front pair and 1.5 to 3m back from the wall).

If you dont have a sound card that doesn't support multi audio, then get, like our friend Stephen (Greatcyber) a Yamaha (or other) DSP amplifier and connect your computer audio out to it. Even with an old Dolby surround one (4 channels) you can get amazing resoults with your 4 speackers. This way you can have also GrandOrgue sounding multichanneled and get the back space echoes of a church.

Thanks Panos...I'm not au fait with audio, so I just did what I thought would work...after your comments, I will experiment. I do have a powerfull amp hooked up to my comp., and my sound card is a Turtle Beach 'Riviera', which has 5.1 surround sound and can handle up to 6 speakers. You do realize that this means moving furniture lol.

Move the furniture out of the room, else the upholstery will deaden the acoustics

and the curtains and the carpet. Even lampshades can have an effect. While you are at it check the floor and do something about the doors if they are solid wood. Where do you stop? Few people can afford the space for a dedicated music room. Even if they have home studios set up these are often a compromise. Unless you are absolutely fanatical about the sound your instrument produces it is best to find a sound that pleases you, and learn to live with it. Otherwise your search for perfection may drive you to despair. Best of luck.

Hello Mike - you gave some nice detail but methinks you left out the most important one. What are you hearing that prompted you to post this and what is it you wish to hear that you aren't that prompted you to post this? (err - sorry for that last Department of Redundancy Department thing!)

Since I am not very savvy on audio (I buy speakers, attach them and play), I thought I would pick the brains of the more adept in this field. As I said, I have 24 speakers facing me in mono, so I thought there must be a better way, and the knowledge of the forum members far excedes my own. The idea of speakers behind me would never enter my head...don't all organists face the direction of the pipes ?
