Why are there no sell by dates on wine and spirits? Or for that matter bottled milk. There are on milk cartons and all other dairy products.

No sell by dates on wine and spirits ... probably because they don't need them - they don't hang around that long![]()
Yes Colin, although in the village I live in delivery is only three days a week. I try and support any services like that as one day I may not be able to get to the shops.

No, the milkman leaves the milk on your doorstep at about 5 am and calls round on a Saturday morning for the money. Very civilised. Very English. They usually have eggs, orange juice, bread etc which you can pre-order. I believe in France they do the same with bottles of wine.

I often hear the delivery vehicle (electric "milk float") about 2.30am when I can't sleep; must be over 30 years since we stopped having milk delivered, and bread deliveries more than 40 years.
I actually like the sound of the electric milk float. It is a reassuring sound to me. Living on an estuary as a child I got used to all sorts of noises, some of them almost subliminal. We never crept around the house when we had young children, assuming that they liked the reassurance that we were still there.

Yes, I agree. When there was a caravan site up the road, before they built houses on it, the occasional pint did go astray, but it was never a serious problem.

I remember having milk delivered when I was a child, the only problem we had was birds pecking the tops off.

I tends to be the tits that peck the tops off bottles. We don,t get many round here and anyway is an easy problem to deal with. I am now awaiting Mikes comment.
