The nearest I come to these sort of experiences is when I have been playing a lot of chess. I see any movment in terms of the chess board i.e. that was a knights move etc.

David thinks people need to look up the word "risible" in the dictionary and then explain why one should be seen as being red or blue as a result. Not my experience, as a result of the use of the word.

There was something on the idiot box a long while ago about synaesthesia which I really would like to see again because what little I saw was thoroughly fascinating, particularly given my interest in Messiaen. The manner in which colour informed much of his music due to his synaesthesia has always piqued my interest.

The doco I saw put it across as some sort of "cross-wiring of the senses" and I was unaware of other varieties of the condition such as hearing a sound and literally being able to smell something as a result - fascinating stuff, would really like to know more sometime.

Soubasse, why bother just trying to learn more?
You should be trying to become that and experience it for yourself.
I recommend taking Joe Perry's place in Aerosmith.
A couple of whacks with a mike stand should get you going, onstage too!

sigh... I know this is the era of appropriate touching, gloving, living and loving,
and I get enough of that without feeling involved, but I feel the need for a warning here.
Corno Dolce should be careful. I think he's got a rare form of transmittable synaesthesia.
When I read his posts I see glints like off a diamond head,
and the surfing on my computer pulls me into a pipeline of swirling Oahu blue.

    Hi John Watt,

Yep, I got it real bad, an that ain't good

Actually, the aquamarine blue waters of Hawaii are found around the Big Island

And now that I live in Moscow, Russia I have to travel many miles before I get to an ocean - Now, If I can only convince my wife that we should settle down in St. Petersburg, Russia --- Well, the Baltic is only a sea, and a little one at that.........
