Sorted, Big Daddy Wilson and the Grave Diggers, "Get on your Knees & Pray"

http://www.bigdaddywilsonb.de/?id=3〈=en_us

You are well placed to see/hear them live Sven, they are based in Germany and have a number of dates listed

http://www.bigdaddywilsonb.de/?id=5〈=en_us

From the website:-
Wilson B. & The Mississippi Grave Diggers

This international Bluesformation,is a collaboration of Hungary,Germany and the USA. Which aim is to dig up the old Mississippi Delta Blues and present them in to a European audience with the goal of keeping the Blues alive. Four People with different experience and differents points of view. Blues showed the way and gave the opportunity for us to express our feelings and thoughts.

On Harmonica is the hungarian Bluesman, Andor Ol‡h. On Guitar is the german Bluesman, Wolfgang Feld. On Vocals is the sweet and powerful voice of Andrea Orosz from Hungary. And of course, the voice of Big Daddy Wilson from the USA.

Also found one of his albums, "Love is the Key", on last.fm.

Hallo and welcome to the forum Schnurpsel
Loved the link. One of my favourite pieces, and I loved the simplicity of their interpretations. Trust Mike to place the performers. Well done. Will try and listen to some more to see if it is all as good.

Welcome to the Forum Sven,
I was impressed by the version of Summertime you led us to, and the speed with which Mike highlighted the participants.
Mike, who was playing trumpet? That was a really jazzy sound.
I tried for Big Daddy Wilson on Spotify and while his offerings are few, (and none with the grave Diggers), it opens the way for those interested in this type of music,
by giving more names.
For examples the following names appeared:
Doc Fozz; Junior Watson; Meena; Shakura S'Aida, Gentleman Blues Club;
Vdeli and many more by following the "Related Artists" track.

The trumpet player is not mentioned on the site. I only found one album on last.fm.

There are track lists for 6 or 7 albums on his site, many tracks of which are playable.

4 albums are listed on Amazon, but prices are a bit steep to say the least, from £16.49 to £22.49, 2 of them are available as MP3 downloads though at £6.99. The one with Summertime is not there though.

As to the speed of finding the answer to the OP, I can't claim much of the glory, I just asked the same question on another forum (a photgraphic one!) and got 2 replies within an hour or so.

I discovered later the person who found it used an application called Shazam for mobile phones, you point the phone at the music as it plays and get the result somehow, wonder if we can get a site licence for MIMF users!!

It sounds as though somebody has taken voice recognition and voice print software to some new heights, and the size of the sound database must be somewhat large!!

I have heard of this software before, and now I think about it I have seen it advertised (onTV I think). It would certainly be useful to the majority of us.

Mike,
You mentioned Amazon prices in your yesterday post.
I dont know if I'm paranoic, but have all their prices jumped significantly recently?
The only way to go just now is via their d/l system.
Of course only about 25% of many artists are available via that route (or in really old stuff zero).

Have any of you tried Magpie Direct. I have seen some (and bought) really good deals on their site.

Amazon does seem to be erratic on prices, stuff which is getting in short supply or going out of print seems to escalate where other places sell it off as end of line. Some S/H stuff can be even more daft, I have a 2 LP set of Cleo Laine and Ray Charles doing Porgy and Bess, I've seen copies on Amazon asking over £90 for it.

Hide the plastic before looking at the next bit.

One good site for cheap CDs is http://www.selections.com/music/ select your genre on the left and browse, how about The Earl Bostic Story, 106 tracks on 4 CDs £13.99

or this -- http://www.selections.com/BX390/jack-teagarden-big-t-4cds/

Spike Jones and other comedy stuff, George Formby, 1930/40s English orchestras and singers, Al Bowlly, Nat Gonella, Gracie Fields just about any older artist, names you thought yu'd never hear again. The ultimate nostalgia kick!

I tried to get that particular version of Summertime, but can't find it. I agree that some of the prices quoted for BDW on Amazon are rather steep. They have downloads, but rather a limited selection.

Found it. This version of Summertime is on the album Get On Your Knees and Pray.

Now to find it at a reasonable price.

Not convinced about Shazam ... I'd like to play two (or more) different versions of an identical arrangement/work, say a Haydn string quartet or symphony, at it and see if it can pick up the string quartet playing, or the symphony orchestra playing ... bet it won't.
