    The 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition

    One of the most prestigious music competions in the world opened on 30th of September with a concert performed by Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire duet.

    The competion takes place in Warsaw, Poland every 5 years. It was initiated in 1927 by a Polish pianist - Jerzy Żurawlew.

    After reading about this here, I looked up and found this web page that lists the program for the Argerich / Freire concert. They played works by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms and Bartok, apparently. The Bartok was an interesting choice, imo.

    Today was the first day of the final auditions where competitors have to play one of Chopin's concerti. The auditions will end on 20th October and the winner will be announced around 11.00 PM CET.

    Mat, myślisz, że ostateczna koncerty będą transmitowane i dostępne w Internecie? Zakładam, że Filharmonia Narodowa będzie grał?

    Tak, Filharmonia Narodowa. Ta sama która zagrała w filmie Pianista Polańskiego.

    Yes, the whole competiton has been broadcast on the Internet. You just need to figure out the time difference. Today's auditions are beginning at 17:50 CET. http://konkurs.chopin.pl/en/edition/...e/broadcasting

    Though if you're waiting to hear the f minor concerto you might be dissapointed. I'm pretty sure I heard someone say at some point that only one competitor chose this concert (the one from Poland, the one who played yesterday).

    2nd prize ex aequo - Ingolf Wunder (Austria)
    3rd prize - Daniil Trifonov (Russia)

    5th prize - François Dumont (France)
    6th prize - not awarded
