    Bwv 555

I finally found a way to record a piece in Reaper without having to open Hauptwerk on two separate tracks. Many thanks to Graham and Panos who helped me in achieving this goal.

So here is the result - my amateur rendition of Bach's E minor fugue. I made some mistakes so you knew it was actually me playing the organ and not a machine ;-)

And yes, I lowered the organ's tune purposely.

    Very nice, Mat.
I thought the playing was just fine, and I didn't notice any mistakes!

    Nice playing, Mat.

Wonderful tempo, too ... too many times I've heard this fugue at break-neck speeds.

    Hi Mat !!

This is what I call a very professionmal achievement.
Using Reaper and Hauptwerk3 is one of the best ways of makin' organ music. One can record all his favourite works and publish them for all to enjoy.
No mistakes noticed, exept if you mean the small delay on playin' the first notes of the fugue.
Favorite tempo you choose and tuning.
    I liked so much.
I wanted a little more reverb on the whole project though. The resoult will be more like the work was played in a real church.Get Reverberate LE and some impulses and get them into Reaper.
Also this mp3 of yours reminds us that st.Anne is still a great set and , yes, one can live with only this organ and have many days of joy playin' it.

Thank you Mat and I'm waitin' for more!!

PS-I'm workin' on a church sonata by Mozart using Reaper/EWQL symphonic & HW3 -Prib positiv probably....

    Thanks, everyone.

I had a hard time chosing the right tempo for this fugue. I listended to several different recordings before I made my own. I heard it being played both tediously slow and unusually fast. I thought I'd go with something in between. Glad y'all liked it.

Panos, I used SIR2 set for Church stereo. I guess it'll take some time before I find my own and unique reverbation style

I just found a couple of new pieces on IMSLP earlier today, so I'll upload something as soon as I get them right.

Oh, and just for the record - due to the fact that I don't have a pedalboard, the pedal part for this piece was recorded separately and then mixed into the track.

    Cheers,
    Mat

    Hi Mat !

Hmmm, SIR2 church... I didn't get it. Maybe your return volume was low , so I couldn't hear clearly the church responce to the pipes.....
Have you turned the dry level off?
So, forget my Reverberate LE post, you've got the best allright. Yeah, some experiment with SIR2 is good for obtaining your own personal style. This thing has many hidden gems...

I 'm lookin' forward for your new entry !

    Cheers

    Hi folks,

In order to make this thread complete I decided to upload the Praeludium as well. The fugue from my opening post was recorded with St. Anne's sample set; for this recording (cheers Graham) I used Enigma. I also thought it would be best to have both pieces recorded with the same set, so I re-recorded the fugue as well.

    Here's the result. Enjoy!

    Hi Mat !

Now's complete yes. I liked the easy tempo on both, so I could enjoy all the voices Bach written.
Also Enigma speaks out clearly. Good choice for 555.
Still, though now I can hear the SIR2 church, I would prefere the organ not so in front, like recording near the console, but a little more into the church, like seating with the audience.
Otherwise this is a very professional achievement. Bravo.
Thanks for posting, I'll keep those mp3s of yours along with all other performances of our friends here in my specific "Magle Forum Organists Archive".

    Glad you like it, guys.

    Panos,

Actually, for these recordings, I didn't use SIR2. I don't have it anymore. I used Glaceverb instead. Not nearly as good as SIR2 but what can I do. One thing I wasn't sure about was the registration. Hope it turned out OK.

    Hi Mat,

Sorry to hear about SIR2.... what happened?
Anyway, Glaceverb is OK, but more for synthesizer type of music, though from your recordings I must say you did an excellent job simulating cathedral with it !!
For a very good convolution reverb and free and having two great Cathedral environments, go and get Reverberate LE. You won't regret it !

Registrations = GOOD. They improve the actual voicing, so I could hear them all with no frequency disturbence at all. This is very important to me.

Tell me about it... I tried tens of different combinations before I found the one you heard. And to tell you the truth, I still wasn't satisfied with it.

I followed your advice and got it yesterday. It's great! And so much better than Glaceverb (at least for organ music). This is what I've been looking for. Thanks.

P.S. I like your new siggy.
