• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Second beta of Bureå Church sampleset available

Hi!

Now the beta 2 of Bureå Church sampleset for GrandOrgue is finally uploaded and available for download at http://www.familjenpalo.se/vpo/download as before. But it's quite a bit bigger now! (it's around 1 GB compressed as a 7-zip archive)

For the original version the main change is that we've been tuning the organ at a1=442 since the principals were already quite high. There's also a new layout for older screens in 4x3 ratio with combinations added. And finally there's an extended version with 63 speaking stops arranged in AGO fashion. All extensions come from the original organ's pipes.

Be sure to check out the OrganInfo folders .html file for more info.

I've managed to load and play the extended version on a 2 GB RAM computer running the Linux build of GrandOrgue with the "lossless compression" and "randomize pipe speaking" options disabled (unticked in the Audio Settings).

As before, there might be flaws we have missed so keep both ears open for mistakes in loops or releases and please notify us so we can correct it and supply patches until we reach final release quality.

Have patience downloading and fun playing with it!

Kind regards

Hi Guys,

If you missed the info on the first Beta release of this sample set, see it here: http://www.magle.dk/music-forums/11686-beta-1-release-bure.html. There are some nice pictures in that thread as well.

Here are some screen caps of the three different .organ files that come with the release:

Burea_4x3.png

4x3 Modernized organ layout

Burea_Ext.png

Extended AGO organ layout.

We hope that you enjoy playing this marvellous instrument. Please let us know if you run into issues or hear something that needs fixing.

Have fun!

Ok Lars, Graham.
1st report.Dry no Jack/SIR2, just GOv.0.2 standalone with Asio at 128, 6ms latency (!)

All work great ! tuned ok. Stop levels ok for my taste. Liked much the AGO version and the whole series of new stops. Faboulus work guys.

On the other side I belive the organ is set at a high output level.... reach red area very easy.
So, I did an edit with my notepad++ in odf and lowered overall level to 80. Now ok.
(GO has a powerfull output engine and polyphony)

All the best

Nice hearing that you like the sampleset!

I use the volume setting in GO's toolbar at around 20 to 25, but one can of course change the overall volume in the odf file as you did.

It's probably an effect of that we tried to get the recorded samples as hot as possible without clipping. Now in hindsight I don't know if it's a good idea to normalize (or rather increase the volume of) the recorded sound, but that's what I did this time (before the noise reduction).

Well, it's good to hear that you like it! I'm also quite amazed that we actually made this happen at all. Lot's of work, and still I think that a few things could be better, but it's already very nice to play! Indeed a great satisfaction to be able to play with the "same" sound at home as I do in the church.

I can tell that to adjust the amplitudelevels I acutally went to the church and played the sampleset at the organ console and compared how the different stops sounded in vpo and real organ. The great is actually very close to the real sound!

Kind regards

FYI: I tried to load the Burea extended AGO into Hauptwerk V3.30 and it says there is an error in the .organ file. I've attached a screen capture of the message.

And I've found a fix for it. With a text editor (I used UltraEdit), open the file burea_church_extAGo_Organ and replace every occurrence of
=REG:00
with
=REG:0
(i.e. remove one of the zeros)

This will change all references of the form REF:MMM:SSS:pPP to REF:MM:SSS:pPP
I saved the file as burea_church_extAGOm.organ and then loaded that with no errors.

Thanks for reporting!

Graham intends to make a native HW 3 package of the sampleset eventually but in the mean time this info can be interesting for other users of HW 3 that want to test the sampleset.

The specification of REF's is different in GrandOrgue (as this sampleset is intended for) and in HW 3 so the above mentioned changes are necessary.

Does anyone have any info on the organ this set is based on? I can't seem to find anything about it online.

I was just wondering, which organ are the extra stops on the extended version sampled from?

Hi Jay,

We have taken the original ranks from the Burea and added either a lower octave or a higher octave using pitch shifting software. We have then voiced the 'new' ranks to sound softer or louder (and sometimes used a bit of EQ to make it brighter or duller). So the extended version is all sourced from the Burea Church organ!

he he he, I see we both posted at the same time... so this information is now redundant. Ah well, it is here for the next person reading the thread ;)

Crack

Dear Lars and Graham,

thanks a lot for this wonderful free sampleset, which I use in Hauptwerk. It is perferct for practicing, as it is rather dry and does not forgive you anything during playing. And of course you get a broad range of nice ranks.

I noticed a crack in PEDOktava4\063-D#.wav, which occurs after keeping the note for 2 or 3 seconds. I wonder whether you can fix that. It is beyond my limited possibilities.

Thanks again and best regards
Michael

Hi Michael!

Thanks for reporting. I found my file of the 063-D# for PEDOktava4 to be damaged. I've exchanged that from a backup I had but now I wonder if the uploaded archive contains the faulty note. Are other users that have downloaded the set experiencing the same problem?

If that's the case I'll upload a patch with a few changed notes that users can download to correct the problem.

Kind regards
