    organ finally on the way

...just had to share a little Christmas joy... congregation voted the last of the funds, so now a new organ will be installed by late summer... it will be part of the renovation of the choir loft, so, an ideal time to take care of the organ...
... be a 3 manual, 35 rank instrument... we will be incorporating about 9 of 16 ranks from the former Tellers instrument... builder is Sebastian Gluck of NY... can't wait for the summer!! .... merry christmas, all! ... jgirv

..forgot to mention that interest in the organ project started 10 years ago, the committee formed in 2005, consultant hired 2005... these things take time!

...it didn't help that a very poor renovation of the existing instrument was done in the 80's ... for every installation, there's a story!

    Congratulations, jgirv

This is indeed a nice Christmas present for you and your church. We will be waiting anxiously for more details .. stoplist, etc.

I understand about the time element for these kinds of decisions to be made within the church.

I have listened to Sebastian's organ samples on his web site. The organs sound beautiful and able to play a wide range of music. You are lucky to select Gluck organs.

here's a link to the Gluck page on the new instrument:

it's a very straight organ... very little in the manner of extensions, so looking forward to the clarity. and to having 4 reeds!!!

I would say "well done" specs look great. I am sure you will enjoy this instrument for many years..

thanks, I'm sure I will! I'll post some construction photos as the time arrives. Good to be around for the installation; my two previous jobs I had arrived shortly AFTER the whole organ had been done, so I missed the fun.

    ...quick update...

The newly re-constructed loft is complete. For once, a church that actually followed the organ consultant's recommendations. We put in double layers of 5/8" wallboard, glued and screwed every 6 inches, and installed sealed doors at both entrances to the loft. A great bandshelll for the instrument.

And that last remaining piece of carpet in the chancel is history.

    Getting interesting.

    Very nice specs, jgirv.

And happy to learn that the church took the advice of the organ builder with the loft preparation. That in itself, is a milestone achievement for any church.

...not sure what a Dexter Geigen is...I'll have to ask Sebastian. Balcony rail is going up this week
(will match the casework in the organ) and maple flooring going in loft right after. stay tuned.

Hmm... maybe great dexterity is required from the person that tunes it

...that Dexter Geigen 16' rank on the Great refers to it's range. It covers the range from the middle of the keyboard to the highest note, so, a kind of "right-handed" 16' manual stop. Now see if you can see what's going on with that Cornetto II on the Swell.
