One of my favorite things....

I had to take a break for a few minutes to make eggnog latte's for my daughter's. They love them (so do I) and since we have such a short eggnog season we consume as much as possible but more importantly
I love making them because my daughters love drinking them.

What things do you like/love to do at this time of year for your family and friends?

I would say nalewka. It's a traditional Polish liqueur. We usually make it from cherries or black currant but it can be made from most any kind of fruit.

Hawk, that drink of yours sounds delicious! I never even heard of it before you mentioned it in your post. I'll have to try and get one the next time I'm out and about; hopefully, someone in New York knows of it and sells it. Eggnog I've had. Is this a more creamy version of it?

Steve it is basically espresso with foamed eggnog instead of milk or cream. Starbucks has them. I usually get a medium with a triple shot of espresso so as to have a nice strong coffee flavor balanced with the delectable goodness of eggnog!

Toast made on toasting forks in front of the coal fire. Tastes simply wonderful, but strangely, only at his time of year.

Toast or crumpets are better done on a wood fire Teddy, less chance of a sooty coal flavour creeping in. Best of all using one of the aromatic woods.

Not quite eggnog, but try advocaat on christmas pudding or in mince pies, in addition to the thickest cream you can find.

Somehow eggnog just doesn't sound right without a generous dollop of Jack Daniels or something similar. Of course, it can go "virgin" for children.

I belong to the Elks, and it is somewhat traditional, at least here in California, for lodges to have a "Tom and Jerry" night just before Christmas. We had ours (Santa Maria Lodge) Thursday, December 16th after the lodge meeting. The officers do the honors of serving them, and we served up a large bunch. The choice was either bourbon or rum. Not bad!!

you may call it something else, must be slathered in butter after toasting, can be eaten just buttered or with a sweet or savoury topping, most things you would put on toast go just as well if not better on a crumpet..
