You don't know of the churches I went to growing up that
didn't have a bathroom. Two of them had outside Johns!
During the winter you would freeze your ? or during the
summer you would have to fight off the bees to use the
outside Johns. When I finally moved to the small city I
live in now, I was shocked by how many bathrooms a
church can have which was a novality to me. Even though
this is a school, churches also looked like this.

When I first got married we lived in a flat in london, the toilet was outside. The bath was in the kitchen, all I needed was a long spoon and I could cook and wash at the same time. It was not too bad in the Summer, but in Winter, brrr.

methodistgirl and marval--ouch, it pains me just thinking about what you two had to go thru! I'm glad that things have changed for the better in both your lives. Here's wishing continuing good health and prosperity for the both of you. wk

Casting back among my choir boy memories I can't remember one church with a toilet, but in those days I could last for hours

Thanks Steve, it is good not to have to venture outside on a cold winter's night.

I remember going to visit some people in France, this was a long time ago. They had their toilet at the bottom of the garden, it was a long wooden seat. The toilet paper was old magazines, still something to read first i suppose.

In my primary school the toilets were not only outside but the urinals were not roofed!! Cold and wet.

That sounds horrible Teddy, not a memory you want to treasure.

We had the same Teddy, plus the whole school was constructed from corrugated iron (on a wood frame)

Known to all as "The Cowsheds"

Steve, pic as requested posted in the members mug shots thread. I would expect to see your pic appear there sometime soon too

If you browse that thread you will see why I posted there rather than an open forum area.
    Cheers MIKE.

When our daughters were just babies we lived in a very very small hand made log cabin. It measured 10x12 feet had no water and no bathroom. Basically a sleeping space. We cooked outside on a fire and had a short walk to the out house. We kept a candle in there for night time use. The funny thing was on cold winter nights the candle gave a false sense of warmth. It really was invigorating. Glad I don't need to be invigorated anymore

My goodness me Hawk, that sounds very primitive. Good to know that you have mod cons now.
