    Ugly Public Monuments

Here's a Public Monument in honor of Peter the Great in the center of Moscow - To say that Muscovites are upset and up in arms about it, is a gross understatement:

It is hideous, to say the least.......

    The sculptors name: Zurab Tsereteli

Anyone else care to care to share what is considered an ugly Public Monument?

I agree it's no paragon of beauty, but how long has it been there? It doesn't look lke something recent. In other words, how long have Muscovites been so upset??

It isn't the best looking monument I agree.

Not exactly a public monument, but this is what our town is famous for.

I think it is wrong to allow cows to get plastered.

I see your point CD but it does have a certain grandeur, and I do like boats

My fellow Muscovites had that hideous thing thrust upon them by the now disgraced Mayor Luzhkov. But I will give him credit for vastly improving the system of Mass Transit - He kicked butt, took names, and twisted arms into so many forms of pretzels - Plus he raised Muscovites Pension Remuneration and made traveling by Mass Transit free for all pensioners - women at 55 and men at 60. And he saw to it that the Arch-Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church was built, not languishing like so many other projects that were decided upon before he took office.

It wouldn't be a bad looking monument if the human figure was in proportion (scale) to the boat he is standing on. But I guess they wanted to portray Peter the Great as being larger than life.

It would have been better without the 4 boats at the bottom, too.

    Br. Colin,

Yes, too much greed - In Moscow we have lots of "New Russians" who drive the latest fancy cars, SUV's, Trucks, and God knows what else - They "burn through" money with such total abandon - They make American spending habits look positively "docile". The traditional Russians are so ashamed of the actions by the "New Russians".

Teddy -- just what is meant by allowing cows to get "plastered"? On this side of the pond, that tends to mean over-consumption of alcohol, and I wasn't aware that cows indulged in such behavior (I mean behavioUr).

Yes, getting plastered means the same here, but the town of Milton Keynes is famous for having a field full of cows made of plaster. The town is relatively new and i believe the cows were put there in an effort to make it more attractive. They look quite realistic from a distance (but the milk is awful)

Incidentally in Japan they used to feed beer to calves. It was meant to make the veal more succulent. Beer was also used as a sedative for pigs if they became aggressive after farrowing.

Just saw Ciaro on TV, it seem to be spreading all over the place its interesting to see teenagers doing the "throw and run" action same as France, Greece even Ireland, just a game to them and worse adults hiding behind them and even encouraging them.
