Traffic--The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Stevie Winwood is still awesome after all these years; this recoed still sounds as fresh and innovative as when I first had the privilege of hearing it back in 1971! Long live Traffic!
Procol Harum--Broken Barricades
White Knight! I'm not going to get into the vernacular of "The low spark of high-heeled boys",
listening to that record when it came out in the early seventies, and it was very slow and non-rhythmed,
Stevie Winwood experimenting with his own solo recording ability by then. That wasn't Traffic.
I still like his "Gimme Some Loving" with The Spenser Davis Trio.
Liking this very mellow record, you should give "Manfred Mann's Chapter Four" a listen.
After "Quinn the Eskimo" a Brit-pop post Beatle phase, and his progressive rock hit singles,
he made an album with horns, all slow and slow paced songs, a beautiful record.
20th Century Masters {Millennium Edition}--The Best Of Stevie Winwood
@ John, I'll give the Manfred Mann joint a try on Spotify. Vis a vis Stevie Winwood, he remains one of my favorite singers and musicians both when he was with Traffic {one of my all-time fave prog rock bands}, Blind Faith and when he launched his solo career. For me--as with Rod Stewart--his voice has a kind of raspy quality, but in a good and very expressive way.
Whatever floats your boatMay your reach always exceed your grasp
Ciao for now,
Steve
Traffic--Shootout at the Fantasy Factory
Just listen to this winsome and jazz-inflected piece from Traffic's great album Shootout at the Fantasy Factory. It brings to mind another of my favorite jazz influenced works of theirs called Freedom Rider, from John Barleycorn Must Die: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=4MHtxDqA9jE

Listening to some Traffic which I had mentioned last night; a very "jazzy' prog rock work, especially its opening salvos {Glad}: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=X84JnZ0vTi0

Yes--The Yes Album. Still as fresh and innovative sounding as when it launched back in 1971. What a great group! Very exciting to listen to, as it also brings back a lot of fond memories of my long-gone youth.
