Smile Final version of H.Russell organ model

    Hi to all.

The final version (v.3) of St.Clement H.Russell organ model for jOrgan is uploaded for free download on my Skydrive.

    http://cid-4abbc613d73c4fa0.office.l...s-Dispositions

It comes with two versions for windows : for jOrgan 3.12.2 (32bit) and jOrgan 3.12.3 (64bit), both with Fluidsynth engines and many improvements over earlier versions.

Thanks to Graham Goode for his great help (read the... read me first).

Still dedicated to my friend DorsetMike, but with a Couperin piece of music in its recorder memory (sorry Mike, I wanted a Stanley piece, but didn't get time to practice ok for...).

I also found some pictures of StClement Church in West Thurrock on the web.... I wonder if one can play this organ with those ships around....... (included in the file).

    Enjoy !

    David,

You're right, at first glance. I was telling the same to my self 18months ago....

But it's very easy and indeed jOrgan is the most powerfull midi relay there is. Also we can make beautiful organ models and enjoy !

    What to do :

1st. Get the right jOrgan version on SourgeForge.net, according to your OS. Like if you're on 32bit windows, for Russell download 3.12.2 installer. and install the program as any app.

2nd. Download Russell rar file. Unrar. Create in your "documents" a folder named "jOrgan Dispositions". There you "put" the unrared Russell folder.

3rd. Open jOrgan from desktop with the installed icon by double clicking it.

4th. Click the open folder icon on the top left. It will open a window, usually to your..... "documents". There browse to find the Russell folder and open it and then double click on Russell disposition file (the one with the same icon as jorgan main).

5th. Wait just secs and you'll see the model open and a virtual keyboard down.
I usually program my models so that at first users can check with the virtual keyboard and the do after their own customize for their physical consoles.

If another window shows up, then this means I forgot to set jOrgan's virtual keyboard as main, so in this window set the divice on jOrgan keyboard for both great and pedal then "next" > set screen on display and device on jOrgan keyboard too and click finnish.

6th. Right click on virual keyboard and select midi channel. Russell's keyboard is set on ch2. click a note(left click) : sound ! I preset one or two stops open for this, but if not, open one !

7th. Now the fun : click view ans select recorder. Window open. If not seen written stuff, click eject and will lead you to Russell's main folder and then select Couperin ect.
You'll see now the written piece. CLOSE recorder.

Hit F11. This leads you to full screen. Click Play on the right at the recorder section.
Hear the tune. Alter stops if you don't like my simple 8'+4' combi.

If you have a physical console or midi keyboard connected to your computer then with Customize (File) you can set device not to jorgan's keyboard but to your own, say Allen console or whatever. jOrgan will "see" it. Also in "next" you can set pistons, stops ect, also swell, crescendo pedals controls.

If you hear cracks and hiss, then in customize set fluidsynth settings so it will be ok for your system. I preset 8/128 but most OS will work ok with 8/256. in 8/512 latency is very evident....

After some experiment and familliarisation you can play with your VPO with ease at home and enjoy. Also made some recordings of your favourite works !

Give it a try David, ask more questions if you need to !

Panos - my friend - thanks for that, I promise I'll print it off and read it quietly when I'm not distracted and see if I can't muster the nerd-courage needed.

Thanks for the tutorial, Panos ...

I've been wanting to try this (and others) for a long time ... never had the capacity to move forward with this on my old XP machine. Now that I have a souped up Windows 7 machine, I can certainly give this a 'go'.

Lars, funny, my partner recently gave me a Toshiba laptop with Windoze 7, and a 28' monitor. I've got no excuses but to take OFF my sabotager's boots.

    You and me both, David.

Although I get along with a 19" monitor, but keep my screen resolution @ 1280 x 1024 to get the max view. Eventually, I'll add a 2nd monitor to my system.

    Lars, David,

Dear friends, jOrgan dispositions, or organ models if you like, can work fine with XP. There are many users and of course developers who release similar models created under XP.

So in jOrgan users list - forum, we exchange experiences on how those models act on each system.

    For example Jacques Levy.
He works with win XP 32bit desktop and 4:3 monitor and I , with win7 64bit laptop and 15' screen 16:9.
His' models work fine here and mine too there !
The only thing we do is to change position of the elements on screen to fit our OS screens format. Nothing else.
Ah, and if it's needed we use MidiYoke for 32bit and LoopMidi for 64bit (or LoopBe1), but this is more advanced and its use is for engaging some other engines for jOrgan than the included fluidsynth sampler.

Yes, this requires an advanced user almost disposition creator, but from my experience so far (over a year) it is so simple and certainly big fun !!
After a wile with practice every organist can make his/her own model for home and not only, Marco Francesco plays with jOrgan in his Church ! (Russell is one of them... he he)
Sven Meier created a "small" miracle and free for all.....

So, as Russell is not a big set, only 10MB (with real samples !), can work almost in any system. Don't wait for win7 practice, install it on XP first !

As you probably know, it is our friend Mike that opened this door for me with his English organs posts during July 2010 here and his question to me, that always stays in my head since : "Panos, do you think is possible to get a VPO set from any of these organs?".
So, I say this model belongs to Magle Forums, as the idea of its creation was born here from our discussions and passion.
It's not a great set, but for me is very special.

    Hi again,

Yesterday night (or should I say very early today...) I upoloaded a new vesrion or H.Russell organ model.
    The best so far.

Because, Jacques Levy made some crucial improvements on some basic functions like the general pistons for example and our GrahamGoode made a big step forward for jOrgan program as a whole.

He made it possible to use Asio (and then Jack if we like) with the Fluidsynth sampler inside jOrgan.

This eliminates the noticeable latency found so far with windows direct sound driver, which was the main option of jOrgan's fluidsynth modeled organ sets.

Also Sven Meier introduced an extremely new version 3.13 (now Beta6) with new features.

All these made me wanna redesign Russell model, so I did. With Asio driver Russell sounds much better.User can adjust reverb settings right from the console live.

You can find it at the same link on my opening post
is called "St.Clement_Russell_3.13b6FS&Asio" about 7MB RARed

Give it a try, I'll be extemely pleased with any feedback as, in jOrgan community we celebrate these good news.

jOrgan now goes higher on top....

    Enjoy,
    Panos

    Hi Mike,

    OK. I got the picture.
Now some good news for you : I'm planning a GO version of Russell this summer, about a year after it's first release for jOrgan... he he
    Hope I succeed....
