Looking for Testers for 64-bit Jack for Windows

    Hi Guys,

If you are already using Jack for Windows to supply VST reverb to GrandOrgue, Hauptwerk, or other ASIO applications and are operating in a Windows 64-bit environment, please contact me at ggoode (dot) sa (a t) gmail (dot) com if you are able to volunteer to test a 64-bit version of Jack for Windows.

The Jack Audio Connection Kit provides a virtual audio cable or 'router' that allows ASIO connections between audio applications. OS-X users have been able to use Jack for connecting to software reverbs with great success, and GrandOrgue/Hauptwerk for Windows 32-bit users have as well. The Jack developers have been working on enabling a 64-bit version for Windows users and we now have a test version. The 64-bit version of Jack is a major breakthrough for Windows audio users as we now have the ability to pipe audio from one application into another within a 64-bit environment.

    Kind regards,
    GrahamG

    1st test report

    Hi Graham,

You'll probably know but I'll post here my report I posted on Jack_Devel list
for all friends here to have a taste on what's goin' on

We're living historic moments for our windows computer systems where we create our music and enjoy playing.
    Here it is :

I succesfully installed Jack 1.9.8 for windows 32&64bit and got working anything that resides in my laptop and in any combination. It's just terrific.. and amazing.

After my first failure to get 1.9.8 to work on my 32bit lap, and after I got all new updates by Stephane I went testing on my main 64bit one.

So this is my very naiv and simple report (I'm a musician , not programmer...) :

    Acer 5738ZG laptop, win7 home premium 64bit, Intel Pentium T4400 2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 4GB ram, SATA HDD 320GB at 7.000rpm, Realteck soundcard (Feb2010 model), Java6u24 and ASIO4all v2.10.

Jack installed smoothly and I didn't repair visual2008++ but my 2010++.

First introduced Asio to Jack (properties>target) and opened Jack command. All OK.
It worked right away with any 32bit client beautifuly.

It needed to register the 64 bit dll and my system didn't allow me to run as administrator (cannot translate accurately the Greek warning...sorry), so I opened command prompt and from there it registered succesfully.

    Then the party started !
I could do anything I wanted, mix any instrument with any effect no matter if 32 or 64bit
Of course all based on Jack's default of 44.100/512.Portaudio driver selected .
Outputs, 4 engaged out of six of Asio and No1 & 2 automaticly selected.
Stereo analog out. Motif ES-6 controller with straight USB connection.

Just for the history these are the apps that worked :

    Reaper 3 & 4 experimental 64
    Seib's VSThost 32 & 64
Seib's Savihost 32 with thousants of VST & VSTi s as standalones.
    jOrgan 3.13beta6 x64 with Fluidsynth/portaudio/Asio
    LinuxSampler 20110306 x64 (Fantasia 0.9-jSampler engaged)
    GrandOrgue v2 32 (also v1 and MyOrgan)
    Kontakt 4.2.2 full 32bit
EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Free Play x64
EWQL Symphonic Choirs (separate version with Kompakt) 32
    Independence pro suite 3.0 x64

    Pianoteq 3 demo 64
    Acoustica Piannissimo full 32
    AirRack 32
    4Front pianos 64
    Arturia's Jupiter8, Yamaha CS80, Prophet 5/VS, Moog Modular, Minimoog & ARP2600
    Electrostudio's vintage synthesizers 32
    DrumCore 3 small 32
    MDrummer4 small 64
    Hydrogen for windows
    Maize sampler 32
    sfz sampler 32
    sfz+ 100pro 32
    Orion full 32
    MTStudio small 32
    MULAB 3.2.14 free 32
    Spicey Guitar full 32
    Arturia's Brass2 32
Eternity, Precog, PadMaker & SynthMaster synthesizers
All SynthMaker created standalone synths (many...)

I'll stop here as I can go on all night..... :-)

I'm so excited, excuse my furiosity as maybe I'm overeacting, but I belive we can do anything we want now on windows without limitations.
    So many roads........

Try this new Jack 1.9.8 you'll be amazed.
    Cheers

    Hi Panos,

Thanks for the report, what a nice collection of apps and VSTs you have!

I've tested both the 32-bit and 32/64 bit versions with great success too. We foud a few issues with the VC++ Redistributables, but those have now been dealt with in th newest versions.

Thanks to all those who have been testing and emailing me privately too...

    Hi Graham,
Thanks , this colletion is quite long indeed, but a pleasure to walk around and play whatever is needed at a given theme...

Yeap, I also tested the new experimental 1.9.8 versions and found that is far easier for windows users the way Jack devs wisely included the needed dlls without being nessesary to install/repair visual studios (2008 and/or 2010++).

As more and more 64bit systems are in use, especially by big sample sets asking for more than 3GBram, the 64/32 bit Jack is an unexpected gift....

I hope the final release to be soon, so we can post here the links and the fun will start !

    Hi again,

Newer experimental version is 4356. Ah, this is a dream.... I finally got all my favourite 64bit apps workin' together, like water flowing, also with 32bit ones !
Midi latency is the main test for time being, of course one can relly on LoopMidi (32&64bit) for connections, or directly for the physical organ console as it makes merging.

    Anyone volunteered ?

    have fun
