Hi Mat, (Returning to your Sep 3rd post (9/10) - (I've been in Amsterdam in between and still trying to dry out.)
Ella is way up in my top bunch of female jazz singers (I was fortunate enough to see her at Newcastle City Hall many years ago, and believe it or not, in person she was incredible, even better then on record.)
Cheers John

Hey John,

It must've been a great experience, indeed. Btw, hope you had a good time in Amsterdam.

Now, here's a piece by Michel Camilo. He specializes mostly in latin jazz. What I liked the most in the recording I'm posting was the brass section; especially the sax solo.

Hi Mat,
I did really enjoy the Amsterdam occasion (my 1st visit) but they were suffering the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and it was awfully wet.
Still I finally got to see the Van Gogh museum - a fabulous experience. Not to bore you but I've been scanning some postcards of his work and printing A4
copies onto art paper with excellent results. (Strictly for my own amusement).

Now then back to Michel Camilo who I'd never heard of; I really like Latin jazz and would rate it as 8/10. I'll try to follow him up onYoutube and Spotify.

For Teddy and Gord, as you both know I am A big "Big T" fan and always glad to hear his work (I've got a lot including the tracks given) - a generic 10/10

Somewhere else on the Forum I've just heard a track from "The Great Summit" I have the 2 CD set and recommend it highly.

Now, how about this one, I was looking for something by Bob Wilber and got this. Wynton Marsalis et al thrown in for free.
I advise a listen to the whole 8 mins.

IMHO, nobody before or since Desmond has been or will ever be able to produce the ethereal sound he was able to coax out of his instrument. He is simply a stunning musician! Only because of the guitar's presence in this piece would I give it anything less than a 10. So, for me, it's an 8.5/10.

Wow, you have to really hate guitar as an instrument, because you can't find better guitarists than Bickert (and Desmond was completely in awe of him, and rightly so)

@ escher, I don't hate guitar, I just don't usually like it in a jazz context. However, I will admit that I heard the great Stanley Clarke playing electric bass in a Wayne Shorter piece, and I totally dug it. Most of the time though, as with a lot of the Grant Green stuff done with Lee Morgan, it detracts rather than adds anything positive to the overall work, only IMHO, of course. For the prog rock milieu, that's a whole other story, be it acoustic or electric, ala Allman, Beck or Clapton.

Hi John,

I'd not heard of Danny Moss before, but I'm listening to him and his band mates right now and liking it very much; 9/10. Will have to do some research on him.

Here's a track by Polish singer, drummer, alto saxophonist and actor:
