Red Allen, 8/10
Anthony Perkins, not a lot, but great backing band 7/10

Still with pianists, this is most definitely different, I'd never heard this version before, still not made up my mind , thought I'd throw at at the assembles MIMF jury!

I think there must be over a hundred youtube entries for his Lullaby of Birdland.

Dear DorsetMike,

Thanx for your effort - I do so really appreciate your helpfulness. I was just having an issue with the machine - Normally I don't have a problem posting a youtube link, it was just one of those days.............

This is a masterful rendition/performance with what to my ears sonded at times like Bach and Rachmaninoff inflections thrown in. Excellent and seamless segues from one style to the next. For my money, it rates a 10/10. Now here is a little different piano stylist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDT4JVfc1RQ

hi escher,i rate the sun ra 9 out of 10,it was excellant. i am actually a fan of sun ra,at times he is performs beautiful and intense music. my remarks and video aimed at colin were made tongue in cheek, because colin has a great sense of humour, a found the most ridiculous piece of sun ra i could find, to get a laugh out of him. ifigured he would enjoy it, but not like it. now i need somebody to rate the above video. it is anita o day at newport.gord
gord, I actually have the video tape of this event which has 'behind the scenes' shots etc and I agree Anita O'Day is a very good in many ways:cool:

Gord, as you probably well know by this time, Lee Morgan--like Wayne Shorter-- can basically do no wrong in my book! This was an impeccable and fiery performance of a Gillespie classic. It literally "smoked" as far as cooking went! And Bobby Timmons and Philly Joe Jones--along with Paul Chambers--definitely added to the flavor. 10/10.
Though somewhat longer, I've always considered the next selection to be one of Joe Zawinul's finest works that he ever composed, and a worthy addition to the wonderful canon of jazz music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmpV67Mgsl0
What do you think?

Philly Joe Jones is amazing, probably my favorite drummer

Cannonball Adderley - 74 miles away 8
i didn't know this side of Cannonball, it reminds a lot of Coltrane

Woody Herman - Caldonia 8
this orchestra is a train, and Sal Nistico is a very underrated player
