teddy and oldude: Pure Desmond is an amazing album with great musicians who play with understatement and class, but i think that a lot of merit goes to the incredible Ed Bickert, one of the best (and most underrated) guitarists ever, his comping is just exceptional.

IMHO, nobody before or since Desmond has been or will ever be able to produce the ethereal sound he was able to coax out of his instrument. He is simply a stunning musician! Only because of the guitar's presence in this piece would I give it anything less than a 10. So, for me, it's an 8.5/10. Here is another absolute master of his instrument who also died way too prematurely: Esbjörn Svensson Trio – Viaticum

Edit to last post--I just found the piece you alluded to on Spotify, Teddy and shall give it a listen quick fast. Sorry for jumping the gun there. Thanks for alerting me to its existence. In future I shall have to be a tad more careful in my searches before I make that kind of statement.

@ Teddy, after finding that E.S.T. piece cited by you, I found it on Spotify and gave it a listen. IMHO, it's good, but not one of their great ones. Thanks again for the heads up on this!

Gord, This is cool jazz in its best sense, not like the muzak that so often has claimed that title, unfortunately. The playing of Trane and Jackson are perfectly meshed and sychronized with each other. Indeed, it reminds me of the wonderful back and forth which occur between Tyner and Trane on some of their collaborations together as well. The bowing technique of Paul Chambers and the wonderful comping of Hank Jones on piano are just icing on the cake. 10/10.
Speaking of a bass player and his bowing technique, give a listen to the following masterpiece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMCkSuaBMbU
p.s. Sorry if I've posted this one before, but I'm simply in love with it!

When hes not prating about he can certainly play the piano. I prefer his playing to his singing. Therefore only 7.5 out of ten.

Cannoall Adderley - First saw, and heard this piece in the film PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Thanks to the forum members who helped me track it down.

Hi Mat,
Jamie C. singing 4/10, playing piano 9/10. If he stuck to jazz piano I would probably go for one of his CDs but I guess that aint gonna happen.

Cheers John

@ Teddy & John

Is it just this particular song or do you not like Jamie's singing at all?

Mat.
Not particulary keen on his voice, but I admit I have heard a lot better from him.

Gord. Yes, I could definitely listen to her. 9.0
