Nicolai Gedda age 80 with The choir of Uspensky Cathedral, Helsinki

If this has been posted previously forgive me. Here are two excerpts fron a concert in Helsinki on July 28, 2005 with the 80 years young Nicolai Gedda. I think they are astounding.

The first is How glorious is our Lord on Sion. I believe by Bortinansky but am not certain.

The second selection is The Lord's Prayer (composer unknown)

Both, (of course) from the Orthodox Liturgy. Some of the most beautiful choral music, in my opinion.

Enjoy the music, the remarkable state of
Gedda's voice, and the beautiful images

What a beautiful voice at age 80..what a blessed man for sure. Orhtodox music is always a treat. Thanks

    Thanks for posting these links.

Amazing stuff from the apparently ever-young Gedda, especially because the tempi are taken rather slow, which makes it even more difficult for the singer(s).

Just to enjoy, another performance of Kol slaven (by the Bolshoi Don Kosaken Ensemble):

    Thank you Marc.

A very enjoyable performance by an excellent chorus. It is difficult to do better at choral music than the Russians present.

Here is another Kol slaven, this time with chorus and orchestra.
