• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Corelli sonata in Cmin, op5 no 7 arranged for GrandOrgue

Work in progress!! Test recording of first movement so far, still needs a few tweaks, like sorting out registration, suggestions and/or comments welcome. Still have a further 3 movements to do.

Registration changes done by Programme change (Cx) MIDI commands on relevant channel to operate divisionals, the Cx commands inserted into the MIDI file channels using an app called Midiocre.

The sample set used is Stehr Mockers extended with the addition of some ranks from other sets (39 ranks)

MP3 and MIDI files attached. (The MIDI file programme change Cx commands are normally used to change the instrument when driving a synth, so will get piano sounds if you play it through the MS synth in a PC)

I got an organ sound from the mp3 file. It seems to me in first section is too( what I call ) muddy. The next section I find harsh sounding almost too brassey... These may just be the stops on the grandorgan system. Corelli to me needs the sound of clear crisp sounds. Maybe more principlals and less flute (16) 8,4,2, then maybe add a mixture(2 2/3) and light reed as alternate sound. Only a suggestion. I did enjoy the piece .Look forward to the rest.

Hi Bill, the MP3 does sound like that I'm afraid, as I said it's the "first take", I just used the stops that were set on the divisionals from a previous session, mainly I was just checking that I'd got the changes in the right place rather than the actual registrations! At least the contrast was good for identifying the change point.

Thinking about it the MIDI file is not much use without a VPO having the divisionals programmed to respond to the programme change commands used.

Herewith the remaining 3 movements.

I'll wait for any suggestions before I finalise them and put them together as one piece, I think I've improved the sound a bit from that of the first movement posted, (tried to wash some of Bill's mud away!)

Can't make any critical comments Mike as I do not know enough regarding this subject. All I can say is I enjoyed it and it sounded great to me.
