Smile Forum Feedback Poll - New Feature: "Likes"

One of our forum staff members (who isn't a member here) started a thread like this on our sister forum, Talk Classical. Thought it would be good to get some feedback from you, our faithful members, about some of the new features since the forum software upgrade.

So, this 1st poll : How do you like the 'like' feature

Besides voting in the poll, feel free to give us your comments, too.

Lars, Re the "like" feature it's OK but I don't use it, I see it is used on TC but remember the average age of TC members is probably in the 20's whereas we are old codgers. I assume that is all you want at this time lol, btw I can't get into your blog

I agree with Colin, I'd go so far as to say it's getting a bit close to puerile social networking sites. No substitute for a proper appreciative post.

Re your blog KH, I get this message when I click on it.

Dorsetmike, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
    No problem accessing Colin's blog.

I think that is fixed now ... I'm new to all these new features, too. You're right Colin, lots more ol' codgers on this forum than TC ... but nice codgers. Goes for the younguns here, too ... all nice peeps.

As one of the "old codgers" on both this and our sister forum TC, I have to say that I've found the ''likes" option to be a good thing. I say this because initially I was very hesitant to post on TC, because not being as familiar with classical music as I am with jazz and rock, I was afraid of making a complete fool of myself when venturing forth with an opinion re: this genre. What I found after my initial forays was that when other TC members would "give me a like" on something I posted, it gave me renewed confidence in that what I was posting wasn't complete rubbish in other members' eyes. Some people might not need this "security blanket'', but I do, as juvenile as that may sound. And to Mike's point about posting something more substantial than a "Facebook" like, nothing prevents one from doing that after he/she posts a like. I also enjoy giving likes to posts which I think are particularly well-written and thought out, in addition to signaling that I also enjoy a work{s} mentioned by a fellow member.
To Mr. Magle, Lars and all the other powers that be on these great Forums: I for one thank you for installing this feature, and fervently hope that you see fit to keep it in play.
p.s. I guess you can pretty much figure how I voted in the above poll!

    I think it's great.

Sometimes I wish to show that I fully agree with a post, yet have nothing of substance to add to it. So it allows me to show my support to a fellow poster. I intend to use it more often.

I don't think age matters, generally.

I haven't used it yet, but I agree it could be nice to say you like something.

Initially did not care for it (too much like facebook) but have grown to appreciate it, and use it. Still can not see the reputation and report buttons. Could we have a colour change please.

If you hold down the left mouse button and highlight the block you will be able to read them.

One can also hover the mouse pointer over them, too.

But, at any rate, I've put in a trouble ticket for this

All this is fine if you can see them in the first place. If they are invisible, as they are to me, you do not know where to look for them so that you can hover, hold down or highlight.

Good point ... I tried last night to correct the colour balance for those and wasn't successful ... I'm still a little skittish about changing those, so I think I'll leave the solution for Frederik.

Why not a white background as with TC
