A question about implants (read cosmetic dentistry)

I'm quite interested in knowing if any of you have had implants (i.e. where a tooth's been extracted and then tunstan is screwed into the jaw bone and, once healed and settled, veneers are propped on top).

What was your experience (did it really friggin hurt? and so on)
Do you no longer fear biting into really hard things, er like pork crackling and so on

Old friend of mine had it done recently. She said it was very uncomfortable, but no more than that. Downside seems to be the length of time to complete the process from start to finish and the cost. I lost a front tooth some years ago through the incompetence of a dentist. My current chap has fixed a fibreglass tooth on a bridge with veneers. No need to grind away and cap the adjoining teeth as the fixing is done from behind. Very cheap and yes I do bite on it (being a front tooth itis almost impossible not to). Noboddy has noticed it is false and the whole process from start to finish took less than half an hour. Cheap, quick and tootally pain free. Depending on the location of the missing tooth this can be a viable alternative.

PS When he first talked about a fibreglass tooth I thought it was a joke
