Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log... (English)
Very soon, I will be able to reveal all details about the major symphonic work I have been working on for almost a year now (and which have been a secret until now). The first movement (which takes about 15 minutes) will be given it's premier performance this summer (2004), and the complete work (5 movements - lenght about 50 minutes) will be performed in 2005. It is, by far, the largest project I have ever undertaken!
The Orchestra: 3 flutes 2 oboes 3 clarinets in b 1 bass-clarinet 2 bassoons 1 double-bassoon 4 horns in F 3 trumpets (b) 3 trombones 1 tuba 3 percussionists timpani harp soprano vocal soloist bass vocal soloist chorus (mixed: SSAATTBB) full strings (Violins I & II, Violas, Celli, Dbl.basses) As you can see it's a quite large scale orchestra, and with additional soloists and choir - when finished - it will be one of the largest danish symphonic works written in many years! The deadline for the work is in the middle of March (a month from now) and I will keep you posted on the progress and news about the first performance If you have any questions about this project, feel free to ask them here in this "thread" (you must be logged in first) and I will do what I can to answer them if possible. [Note: Some of the breaking-news info will be posted in the "members only" section first, before being added to this log or even being announced in public medias (newspapers, television etc.)! Yet another good reason to join this forum... ]

Re: Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log...

Re: Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log...
Thanks for all the support, Nalia, Trebbien and Corno!
Corno asked about all the secrecy surrounding the piece. Well, I can tell you that eveything will be revealed in a few weeks (maybe even sooner), but until then I have promised the people who have commisioned the piece to keep the details about the work (other than what I have already written in this thread) and the first performance confidential. |

Re: Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log... Part I.
Time has come to reveal the "secret" in public:
On June 10th, 2004, at 19:00 hours there will be a gala/festival-concert in celebration of the 70th Birthday of Henrik, His Royal Highness The Prince Consort! The programme will consist of works by Maurice Ravel, Nies. W. Gade, Carl Nielsen, Giachino Rossini and Frederik Magle... The concert takes place in Tivoli's Concert Hall (Copenhagen, Denmark) and the performers are The Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Radio Choir (Conducted by the Conductor-in-Chief Thomas Dausgaard), the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir (Conducted by Ebbe Munk) and the soloists; Sine Bundgaard (soprano), Gert Henning Jense (tenor) and Bo Anker Hansen (bass/barytone). This will be the first performance (of the first movement) of my symphonic work "Cantabile". The whole work consists of five movements or "symphonic poems" based on HRH Prince Henrik's collection of poems, "Cantabile". The work has been comissioned by the Danish Royal Family and is sponsered by the Royal Family and the Spies Foundation. There will be public access to the concert and tickets can be bought through, amongst other places, Tivoli's ticket agency, but expect it to be sold out quickly! |

UPDATE 19-03-2004
I'm working intensely to put the finishing touch on this work, so I will not be present at this forum very much the next couple of days. I will return with a new update when the work is finished. |

Re: Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log... (English)
I'm just going to agree with Trebbien
- looking forward to see and hear the final result... and if exams are not to heavy a burden in June I might just pop by Tivoli (not that an invitation would hurt hehe)

Re: Major Symphonic Work: Progress Log... (English)
just one little suggestion... use horns... and use a lot of them... all the time...
hehe... - there can't be too many of them in a piece and eventually they do have to play more than the few notes that they are used to in any given pre-romantic orchestral work... so... a lot of horns...
