WIMA and IMSLP to merge

The merge could be a headache ... more than likely there are duplications, but maybe that's all the better as they might be different editions.

Looking forward to the merger ... a feather in the cap for both.

Never heard of that, Mike. Despite the puritans crys and gnashing of teeth, I'm a big fan of IMSLP. I know the whole issue of versions of works (take the nightmare that is the Bruckner symphony for example, or Puccini's operas) is a vexing one, it seems to me that IMSLP is now adding intelligent labels to its scores to clarify versions. I also like their new, revamped home page. It's my all time favourite website really. Had I had a computer when I was a kiddling, and known of it I'd be a very rich man now!!

It'll be interesting to see what happens, will the 2 sites continue much as they are now, or will they become one single entity? I personally use WIMA most of the time, only resorting to IMSLP when I can't find what I'm looking for, hence I know my way around WIMA, but find IMSLP more difficult to navigate, I suppose that would change as one gets more familiar with it.

What I mainly like about WIMA is the inclusion of MIDI or MP3 sound files albeit electronic synthesized and often Finalé, Sibelius, MusicXML and other formats. If these are lost in the merger then I would be most unhappy. I've not yet found any similar facilities on IMSLP. I use Finalé Songwriter myself and I can usually find a work in a format I can import from WIMA, a converter for PDF to MusicXML costs $199 (assuming it works) which is not justifiable on a pension and why I prefer WIMA.

WIMA home page

http://icking-music-archive.org/index.php

Clicking on "Composers" under "Sheet Music Downloads" (lower left of home page) gives you this list

http://icking-music-archive.org/ByComposer.php

Clicking on J S Bach in the Composer list gives you -----

http://icking-music-archive.org/ByComposer/J.S.Bach.php

in BWV order, clicking say BWV554 you can get a PDF of the score which can be down loaded.

http://icking-music-archive.org/scores/bach/bwv553/Bach_Kleine_Praeludien_2.pdf

Alternatively clicking on the yellow sound file icons, you can either get a MIDI synthesized organ version or an MP3 synthesized harpsichord version, either of which you can import into most notation applications. Some other works will have arrangements for various combos, brass, recorders, strings etc and some notation app format files, also down loadable, example look at BWV 565 for a few options!
