    The Slap urge

There is a contraversial book called The Slap written by a Greek Australian. Basis of story, child behaves VERY badly and adult slaps it (adult not child's parent, who is a hill-billy/bogan/feral (add adjective here appropriate to your country).

So this is the reason for this hilarious comentary in the paper.

    Made me laugh out loud.

I'm not an atheist and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.

I managed to stay calm throughout most of the story but burst out laughing when I read about The Natural History Museum of Dog Turdology...

Must try and get a copy of that book David. I experience the slap urge 15- 29 times a day. I brought my children up to be basically well behaved and polite and do not see why other parents can not do the same. Sometimes it is the parents that I want to slap, ........with a piece of 2X4.

I like that, unfortunately people are banned from slapping their children. There is no discipline, so they get away with too many things. Sometimes is it diffucult to decide who needs the slap, parent or child.

Nothing wrong with a slap or a good kick up the jacksy some time in its life a kid has to know how actions produce reactions

Funny however, smacking a child is not illegal in New South Wales so long as the resultant mark left (hand print) only last for 5 minutes or less. (Hardly worth the effort). Hitting a child on the head, however, is criminal (as it should be). I'm always horrified when I hear of people who were slapped on the face by their parents. A sharp, painful smack on the leg for misbehaviour is just fine.

What always amazes me is the children who completely ignore their parents/ adults etc. Not necessarily bad or nasty children but they have learnt that they can ignore their parents. The - don't do that brigade - have not learnt that by repeating over and over again - don't do that - they are teaching their children that they can do that, and there will be no consequences.

Bring back the birch and the cat o' nine tails. Ducking stool, stocks and pillory could come in handy too.

Imagine having your ankles locked in these for a day or two, target for epithets, rotten fruit/eggs, buckets of manure, other rubbish and worse, or maybe no shoes or socks and having your feet tickled by all and sundry.

(Surely it's about time corporal punishment was promoted, how about sergeant major punishment)

@Mike - yep - the stocks with feathers would at least be humane, besides...would entertain the populous, especially if the recalcitrant wet his/her pants laughing.

You could force them to hear Classical music for 10 hrs a day, it would be agony for the little Sebastian's

Every naughty action by a child shall bring about an opposite reaction by the adult - some sharp openhanded whacks on the buttocks will get the miscreants attention........
