    Accuracy

A discussion on capitalisation and punctuation on another forum gave rise to these examples

helping uncle Jack off his horse.

helping uncle jack off his horse.

A woman without her man, is nothing.

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Luckily this forum does not seem to have much of a problem with literacy, maybe musicians are more aware of the discords caused by lack of accuracy in writing.
    Cheers MIKE.

Punctuation is a complicated subject. Shoots, Eats and Leaves is a fascinating and amusing book, worth raeding which became a best seller. Worth reading.

Great title Teddy. That alone would make the book worthwhile.

Good old Lynne Truss, a great book.

This is why punctuation is important.

    Dear Thomas,

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you let me be yours?

    Maria

The problem with grammar, as I see it, is that it's taught with silly old Latin labels which are now completely irrelevant (unless you're a botanist or lawyer).

Verb, noun, adverb - these need to be rethought and Anglicised.

I agree, however, that "doing word", "naming word" and "a word that modifies a doing word" are clumsy, but at least they're in English.

I blame the toffs at the upper class universities such as Cambridge and Oxford for pushing this Latin plague so hard.
I'm not an atheist and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.

Baic rules from an early age should solve the problem. Like a game of chess, the rules are suprisingly simple, it is just a matter og being taught to apply them and not using the lazy methods that so many teachers are happy with.

I hope that Mike means disciplining the lazy teachers. There are many who need it.
