Grandorgue & Windows 7 64 bit

Hello

I've recently upgraded to win 7 and am having trouble getting grandorgue to work - the organs sound like they have been put through a very bad reverb effects processor, and then mangled. Is there a compatablility issue?

In addition, I can't get Sibelius 7 to speak to MidiYoke - is there another way of getting grandorgue and Sibelius to talk to each other?

What version of GrandOrgue are you using? Do you have ASIO4ALL driver or are you using dsound?

I was using 0.2.01 I believe, with direct sound

The little I've played with GO 0.2 on Windows 7 64 bit worked pretty well with the ASIO4ALL driver. So, for a start I'd recommend you to download and install it and see if that makes any change.

Also, of course have a look in the Windows sound configuration so that the soundcard is configured correctly, but I assume that normal CD quality playback works well for you otherwise. To make sure your wav files in the sampleset are ok, try a few of them in an audio player/editor as well.

Thanks - it all seems to have cleared up.

Is there a newer version of GO about?

And does anyone have a solution to my second question, about midiyoke (which dosn't work with sib 7 because sib 7 is 64 bit)

There's a newer version of GrandOrgue (that's going to be very good), but presently one will have to compile it oneself from the source as it's lots of development happening right now. It's not so hard to do, but I'm almoast exclusivly using (and developing on) Linux so I'm afraid that I cannot at the moment provide any recent binary for Windows.

Have a look at loopMIDI and see if that will answer your connection needs.

LoopMidi can talk with sibelius 7 but not with GrandOrgue 0.2.01 - Loopbe30 can also talk with sib 7 but has infinite loop problems which I can't seem to sort out.

Glad to hear that there is active development for GO.

Edit - Sibelius 7 seems to default with midi devices as both inputs and outputs thus causing the loop, but easily switched off. Neither of these are as powerful as midiyoke, which is a shame, although Loopbe30 & Loopbe1 both work with the midi data, midiyoke could move all controller messages into channel 16 to be listened out for by GO which was useful for stop changes. Nonetheless I've got it all talking and working, so thanks for all your help.

I look forward to the next GO - is there anything I can do to help like testing it on win 7 etc?

Sure thing, there are always room for more testing. Best bet at the moment is to be able to compile it oneself, at some point we have talked about making current builds available for testing, but somehow no one has found the time for it.

Most of the serious development is happening on Linux as platform, but there are detailed instructions on the GrandOrgues MediaWiki on how to compile it on windows. It shouldn't be too difficult to follow for anyone who is moderately skilled with a computer. I put a direct link to the page here for the interested.

LoopMIDI should be able to communicate with GrandOrgue 02.0.1 in Windows 7... I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and LoopMidi works well connecting VMPK to GrandOrgue... Please let us know which version of LoopMIDI you have installed.

I'm using GrandOrgue (all versions :-D), Sibelius 7 on win7 x64. MidiYoke doesn't work on 64bit OS with 64bit apps. It is workin' with the 32bit ones (as GO) so you got to use the 32bit Sibelius 7 (Installer installs both x86 & x64 versions).

Cannot use GrandeOrgue (a 32bit app) with Sibelius 7 x64. It's the same if you try to use GrandOrgue with Reaper x64 (ReaRouteAsio driver enabled).

Best solution is to Install : Asio4All latest and LoopMidi which has both x86 & x64 .dlls. This must be engaged every time you open your computer, it doesn't open automaticaly as MidiYoke or LoopBe. Then it stays on until shut down.

But, surely do not mix GrandOrgue with 64bit apps.
Also you'll get cracked sound if the buffer size & number are low with directsound. Experiment to find the best combination and surprising enough GO goes very well on latency with Directsound :-) if one doesn't want to use Asio4All.

Hi!

Actually, the development version of GrandOrgue is possible to compile as a 64 bit application! I run one such version on one of my Linux computers, but apparently MinGW now exist in a 64 bit version (MinGW-w64) that possibly could be used to build a native 64 bit version on Windows also.

Maybe something to experiment with for some dedicated Windows user?

No, it can be stopped any time. I very recently found that LoopMidi sets an icon in the system tray. That icon has a 'stop' item in its right-click menu.

Where's this 'stop' item ? Right click where ? On desktop icon? On LoopMidi's window there are two folders in menu : setup & about. No right click function....
Can you help more ?
Anyway, one can close LoopMidi from taskmanager :-)
But why close ? I'm thinkin'.....
MidiYoke for example is permanently on....

Right click on loopMidi system tray icon, you get the menu:


If it doesn't come readily in the system tray, go to the customizer : click "1" then "2" to get access to the cusomizer
