To Br. Steve and the gang of MIMF

Probably one of the better bits of prose in re to the societal and political morass of Sweden:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...um?INTCMP=SRCH

Now I'll inject some polemic here:

I had the good fortune of caring for my father in the last year of his life - I didn't want him to be abused by nursing facility staff at either private or publicly run care homes. It is appalling that elderly and dementia-ridden human beings are lying in their own excrement - Having seen first-hand the horror of what goes on because the politicians write the contracts as to how much care shall be provided it is preferable to care for one's own parents. I have said to my mother that my wife and I will care for her when she is not able to anymore. Whats the matter with the younger generation today? They wish not to care for their parents??? Is the pursuit of their own self-fulfillment just so over-ridingly important that they are ready to pitch their parents into the care of the State or private enterprise-run facilities??? My Lord!!! It makes me want to gag!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, any number of excuses will come up as to why. No, I am not insensitive to those who have no children of their own - There are possibilities available - Yes, there are exceptions to the "horror facilities".

One's "Golden Years" are too important to be a pawn in the political chess-game that is currently being played out in Western Society.

Dear CD. Thank you for your article about England. Or was it Sweden. Well it could have been either. It does sound as if they are interchangeable. I recognize all those situations. This is what happens when people do not give a stuff. About honesty. About their fellow humans. About Honor. About integrity. The answer? I am not even sure what the questions should be any more.

    Duckmeisterlein,

Its a sad day when the constituency does not have the common sense or will to formulate the questions that need to be asked and answered, and if needed be, to throw the bums out and run them out of town on a rail. When I lived in the Socialist Utopia of Sweden no one seemed to be conformist - But once outside the Country, its a whole different story. One sees how the fish rots from the head on down. A distant relative of mine who lives in Stockholm is known as a Lumberjack (Timmerman in Swedish), in the telephone catalogue. But he lives in one of the most desirable apartments in the most desirable sections of inner-city Stockholm. The system in Sweden is set up so that those who know how to "fiddle around" can live almost like Czars, at the expense of the Taxpayers even. All the talk about Egalitarianism, Equality, Solidarity is but smoke and mirrors. The confiscatory taxation of those who "work for a living" keeps them in thrall, unable to change a system that is thoroughly bankrupt, morally, ethically, and financially.

And then we read about the Multi-millionaires who descend upon Washington to ask Congresscats to tax them more - How thoroughly disingenuous!!! All what they have to do is to troddle on down to the local tax office and pay into the open account whatever sum they want. The taxman will be ever so happy to take whatever they want to give.

The very rich will always find a loophole for to do a tax write-off. Washington will always see to that - You can bet your Pound Sterling on that, Baby........

That was a interesting article, though very sad as well.

Unfortunately there are many stories like that in the Uk

I am very grateful that the place where my mother was looked after was good. We had no complaints whatsoever, my mother was very happy there.

Too many stories are being reported of people being mis-treated, and not being properly looked after. That is in old peoples homes and in hospitals, it is time the government did something about the dreadful situation. Not everone is lucky enough to be bale to be looked after at home.

As for the way politicians behave, don't get me started. They tell us to cut down on luxuries, so we can afford food and to pay bills. While they claim expenses for two homes, and do they have to worry about paying their bills, no they don't.

CD, thank you for that editorial which comes so disturbingly close to the mark. Not only in England and Sweden but, I fear almost every where in the world. People everywhere seem to have abdicated their responsibilities in favor of Government care. Where I live, on the other side of the wide water we have two political parties which differ only slightly if at all. It is my belief that the only legitimate function of any government is the protection of the lives and property of its citizens. I commend you for what you have done and will do for your Parents, but we all have an obligation to provide for those who provided for us when we were too young to do so. And just writing a monthly check is not enough. We owe them so much more.
