Composer of the month for January 2012

Advance warning so you can start practising to record something!

Scores of 30 voluntaries and one of the opus 10 concertos are available on WIMA with electronic samples/midi of most

    http://icking-music-archive.org/ByComposer/Stanley.php

    Some also on IMSLP.

Many of the voluntaries and some of his concerti are also on Youtube, you can also find some of his works on the NPOR site played on historic English instruments.

Only one of his Opus 10 concertos, number 4, is on youtube with organ and strings, some others of opus 10 and opus 2 are there in string only arrangements. I've yet to find recordings of any of his oratorios/cantatas, I believe there are scores available, although maybe not complete.
    Cheers MIKE.

Most of you may have noticed that the John Stanley 300th thread has migrated to the Classical Music area, mainly because I hope to have some of his other works posted such as the trio sonatas and if I can find them for free maybe a cantata, oratorio or parts thereof.

So far the 6 opus 2 concerti for keyboard and strings are linked for free download (until end of January) by kind permission of the Baroque Music Library; comprising 2 concerti for organ and strings, 2 for harpsichord and strings and 2 for strings with organ or harpsichord continuo. In addition as part of the original CD there is a Voluntary by John Blow.

Should be plenty of Voluntaries posted there, he wrote 30 and quite a few are on Youtube and hopefully some members recordings. So if you see new posts on that thread they may be of organs so worth a look.
    Cheers MIKE.
