Alkozaur

ALKOZAUR can be labelled like France's answer to the British neo-prog scene. This band shows much enthusiasm during their first CD ‘Serum Of Life’ (2011). The instrumental section is Arena-esque which is dominated by sweeping guitars (Didier Lapchin) and lush keyboards (Serge Ruiz). The evocative voice of Philippe Compagnon sounds similar to Mark Colton. The rhythm section (Antoine Ferrera: bass, Thierry Laurent: drums) performs really strong. At times there’re clear tendencies toward Fish-fronted Marillion (‘Nice Trip’), Credo, Porcupine Tree, Gazpacho. The songwriting shows a good direction - looking firmly ahead, rather than only trying to follow the past.

Alkozaur take much from some renowned groups that have been their influences. But they bring much of themselves as well to create music that’s familiar yet fresh. On the whole, a pleasant listen.
